  • Teen Drama Soundtrack Recap: Week of Nov. 17

Radio is dead. MTV, as you have no doubt heard by now, doesn't play music videos anymore. The best bet for bands these days is to get their song played on a TV show or commercial, as crass as that might sound—just ask Sia, whose "Breathe Me" became a hit after appearing in the series finale of "Six Feet Under," or any number of artists (Caesars, Feist, The Ting Tings) anointed with the career bump that comes from appearing in an iPod commercial. Doug Wallen recently wrote in the Weekly about

  • L.A. Weekly's Top Ten Dance Collections of 2008, Both Mixed and Unmixed

Any knucklehead with DSL and a laptop can now make an electronic track. With a half hour of clicking and fiddling, you can sample enough cheesy beats and mashups to clog arteries from here to Berlin. Simple dropdown mouse maneuvers can transform electro tracks into progressive house tracks (from dry and synthetic to wet and gushy), rhythm tracks can be tempo-tweaked with an upward toggle to change a Timbaland beat into a Chromeo one. Add some T-Pain-esque pitch-correction vocals to your between

  • Last Night: Santogold @ HOB, Anaheim

Last Night: Santogold at the House of Blues Anaheim October 13, 2008 Better Than: watching Austin Powers in Goldmember Download: Santogold's "Your Voice" An eclectic assortment of bands offered a little bit of something for everybody as Santogold, Mates of State, Alice Smith and Low Vs. Diamond rolled into the House of Blues Anaheim for the "Goldrush" tour. Low Vs. Diamond came out with a purpose by unveiling their anglophile leaning anthemic rock tunes. I was looking for a bottle of aspi
