Shea and Choi: big anti-R funders
Measure R on the Irvine ballot asks residents to approve what a great job the Irvine City Council is doing on planning the Great Park on the old El Toro Marine Corps base (or if the measure loses, one supposes, what a piss-poor job they are doing). The conflict-of-interest-laden gusher of money flowing into the campaign for the measure has been examined here and here and to a much more comprehensive extent here and for the must-read historical perspective, righ
As a young cabrón, I loved nothing more than to gorge on AM/PM hot dogs, to unwrap each from its foil and pile on onions, relish, chili, mustard, and jalapeños. For nostalgia's sake, I bought two on the way back from Los Angeles last week, at an AM/PM-Arco hybrid off the I-5 Freeway South Carmenita Road exit in Santa Fe Springs. Isn't it funny how memories warp the truth? Too much salt inside each processed wiener and crappy chili made for an unpleasant taste, and while the bun maintained its

Saturday, April 25, 2009 -- A day in which I attempt to hunt down the Kogi Korean BBQ taco truck. Here's how it went down:
12:12 p.m. I get an e-mail tip that Kogi's going to be in Buena Park tonight, at the same location they ended up in last Wednesday night. I am eating carne asada nachos at Alerto's in Westminster when I receive the message.
12:27 p.m. I lick my fingers of nacho salsa and post the news via iPhone on this blog.
10:21 p.m. I see tweet that there'
This Week's highlights from Stick a Fork In It:I wrote about my near-fistfight with a fellow partygoer at the launch of the new Charlie Palmer small plates menu--it must've been the excitement of kicking off our new Twitter account that was getting to me.Talking of Twitter-induced excitement, Edwin's heart went a-flutter when he got word of the kogi truck's arrival in Santa Fe Springs. Sadly, he spent a while in the line before realizing it'd be hours before he got served, and had to call it qui

This was the night. I could feel it. I was going to finally sink my teeth into something the whole of L.A. had been talking about and enjoying for months. Unless you've been holed up in the Unabomber shack or haven't been reading my entries on this blog, I'm talking, of course, about the Kogi Korean BBQ Taco Truck.
But first, a little history.
Flash back to last October, when out of the blue, I got an e-mail from a person named Alice. She reads my blog, she said
UPDATE (5/12/09, 8:00 p.m.): Fellow Weekling Albert Chin has informed me that Kogi won't be able to make it to two of the OC stops this week (Fullerton and Anaheim). But they will make it to their good ol' Santa Fe Springs spot tonight and tomorrow (keep on their Twitter for up-to-the-minute updates). As far as I know, they're still on for Santa Ana on Saturday. According our sources at the Santiago Art Walk, they've got their permit issues squared away. Here's the tweet about the cancellati
Just got late breaking word about Kogi. Because of troubles with the Lakewood police, they are changing their location to Buena Park tonight:
9 p.m.-12 a.m.
Corner of Fresca & Valley View, one block east of Orangethorphe!!!!
Also, a reminder: be nice, people! Don't cut, don't fight, and be respectful of the rules. Lines will be long, but don't give the cops a reason to bust up the party again.
UPDATE: There was a last minute location change to Santa Fe Springs, logged around 10 p.m.
