The Willowz Set to Release 'Everyone' November 17

Amanda MiliusRemember the Willows? They're back! In Pog form! Well, that's just not true (unfortunate, yes). But they are back with a new album, Everyone, scheduled for release on November 17. It's their second album on Steve Aoki's Dim Mak label, following 2007's Chautauqua.

OC Music Fest: Did We Miss Something?

We first learned of the OC Music Fest 13 months ago, when then-music editor Dave Segal blogged about its "Be The Shirt band/artist T-shirt design contest." No word on if a winner for that was ever announced, since the festival, once scheduled for May 8-10, clearly never happened.

On-Sale Saturday: Benefit Show with Social Distortion!

Orange County punk/rockabilly legends Social Distortion are playing their first show in the area in some time (not counting Mike Ness solo shows; there's been plenty of those) on May 18 at the House of Blues in Anaheim. It's the "Rock to Recovery" event, benefiting "Jay Thomas and his battle with sp ... More >>

Tonight: Venus Infers CD Release Show at Detroit Bar

From my outsider perspective, I thought Huntington Beach was primarily populated by "skate-logo-clad teens and meth-addled Nazi skins," as Rich Kane put it in a recent post in our sister blog, Navel Gazing. So what a nice surprise when I came across Venus Infers, from HB but practitioners of a sound ... More >>

What You Missed Over The Weekend Part XX

Friday night found Dave Segal attending the Good Foot at Que Sera to see DJ Nobody, Dennis Owens and Scott Weaver spinning world-class funk and soul. Then he had his mind blown by psych-rockers Magic Lantern and the Antarcticans at the Prospector Saturday. Meanwhile Rich Kane reviewed The Register ... More >>

What You Missed Over The Weekend Part XVIIII

On Saturday, Luke Y. Thompson headed to OC Weekly photographer John Gilhooley's art show at Memphis in Santa Ana, featuring a slew of OC Weekly covers beautifully displayed on a chartreuse wall and printed on glossy, over-sized paper (oh, the glory of glossy!). And across the street from Gilhooley's ... More >>

This weekend had so many festivals going on that both Navel Gazing and Heard Mentality were working through the weekend. First, we had Luke Y. What You Missed Over The Weekend Part XVII

By far the most interesting thing to happen this weekend was the thievery of Jenna Jameson's vagina. You're just going to have to read about it yourself. Speaking of vaginas, Rich Kane submitted another arousing issue of the Reg-O-Meter complete with mentions of Asian masseuses, pussy (cats) and sa ... More >>

What You Missed Over The Weekend Part XVII

This weekend was a kick ass good time with Rich Kane doing another edition of the Reg-O-Meter that's pretty funny, I'm not gonna lie. Saturday night caught Dave Segal reviewing Autechre, Rob Hall and Massonix at Echoplex, where he was a lil' influenced because he's been into Autechre ever since h ... More >>

    Squeeze OC R.I.P. Part Two

The Orange County Register's ill-starred Squeeze OC, a faux alternative weekly that, in the words of Weekly managing editor Rich Kane "only retarded frat boys could love," just died its second death. Back in August 2007, the magazine, which only lasted two years, went web-only. Now, as of today, Sq ... More >>
