  • Mickey Nixes Metal Concert

Raise your hand if you saw this coming... The powers that be at Walt Disney Properties have pressured concert promoter Live Nation into cancelling tomorrow’s Machine Head show at the House Of Blues, the reason being “violent imagery, undesirable fans and inflammatory lyrics”. The Happiest Place On Earth? Not if you’re a metal fan. Mickey thinks you’re “undesirable”, therefore not welcome in his squeaky clean Magic Kingdom. Censorship? Discrimination? • People Noise, Casket Salesmen and The Prisoner's Dilemma at the Glass House on 02/10

The minute I cut through the entrance curtains of the Glass House in Pomona Sunday night, it dawned on me how the setup looked more like an intimate rehearsal than an actual gig. In the darkness of the main hall, the venue's flashing strobes and swirling colored lights revealed. . .the floor, buffed and in perfect condition. Scattered clusters of fans contently kept their distance from the stage. It was a pretty rough scene. That fact alone could have brought the performances of the headlining

  • OC Weekly faves land Glass House gigs

Like any local fan, I'm always excited to see bands we've written about in the Weekly get some solid recognition elsewhere. Okay, so maybe Pomona is not too far elsewhere, but the April calendar at The Glass House has great OC/LB talent opening up for some Coachella caliber acts. The jazzy jam artists of Free Moral Agents, created by Mars Volta keyboardist Ikey Owens, landed a prime opening gig for their New York buddies TV On the Radio on April 14, days before they take the stage in Indio. Apparently Black Lips are all about Southern California. Not too surprising for a band from the south (Atlanta, Georgia specifically). As a matter-of-fact, you can find them in the LBC this Saturday on their way into Pomona for a Glass HOuse show on May 2 and a Detroit Bar gig the next day on May 3. Recycling is great, free shows are great, soda is great--what's not to love about the gimmick/sponsorship dealie when you get into Girl Talk shows for free with 36 empty cans of Squirt?
