Dear Satan, what the hell happened to Clive Barker?
I interviewed him a few years ago for our late sister-paper New Times LA, and found him charming, lucid, smart, fan-friendly -- everything you'd hope he would be.
Today, I don't know what to make of him. His croaky voice and odd manner initially appear to be a put on, part of a joke in which he says he's been coming to Comic-Con since biblical times when his mother Mary brought him to read books about his father. The joke dies. But his voice
Lichens (Chicago guitarist/vocalist Robert Lowe) has balls. Before a crowd of metal heads who wanted to rock the fuck out on cochlea-threatening volume and controlled bombast, he began his set with field recordings of birdsong, while seated off to the left side of the stage. You could sense he was sending currents of unease through the audience at Echoplex. He gradually added dulcet vowel sounds from his throat and then intricately looped the “oh”s and “ooh”s. Apparently Ozzy Osbourne really liked doing this World of Warcraft commercial. He's going to be closing out this year's massively sold out BlizzCon '09, with a concert in Anaheim on August 22.
Yep, I'm OC Weekly's man at BlizzCon, the annual two-day convention for Irvine-based computer gaming giant Blizzard Entertainment. It's at the Anaheim Convention Center. Here, let's take a few hundred words to answer that question.
Motörhead are currently on tour (including a stop at the House of Blues in Anaheim), they also play a role in upcoming action/adventure game Brütal Legend, out next week on Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 (we got a chance to play it at Comic-Con this year, it's a fun, straight-forward beat 'em up with some cool visuals). That game, with Jack Black voicing the main character and additional vocal appearances from Rob Halford, Ozzy Osbourne, Lita Ford and Motörhead singer Lemmy will probably be a
