Tonight the Glass House will be hosting the Warped Tour Pre-Party with Gallows and Big D And The Kids Table. For those of you who just absolutely cannot wait, the show will be just a teeny taste of one of the years most anticipated tours. Both bands playing tonight will be with the Tour during the majority of its duration.
Kicking off tomorrow at the Pomona Fairgrounds, the Warped Tour will make a big ass circle around the country (and select cities in Canada) before finishing back in So Cal a
The annual sonic bacchanal known as South by Southwest goes down March 12-16. Every year, several thousand music-biz types, musicians and ordinary mortals with more money than sense descend upon downtown Austin, Texas, cramming five months of musical activity into five days. I'll be blogging about all the awesome and heinous stuff I see/hear while I'm there, but for now, here's a lil' sneak preview of the festivities.
OC/LBC bands making the trek to the Lone Star state's capital include Free th
Dave Segal and Tom Child spent the weekend in Austin for the South By Southwest Festival, which they live-blogged out of Heard Mentality. Browse the SXSW blog for their coverage here, and do scroll down and flip through some slide shows while you're there. Chelsea Ide wraps up the SXSW weekend quite nicely over here.
Once again, the Reg-O-Meter (which now has a snazzy new logo - thanks, Steve!) went negative after Rich Kane fed it this week's notables from the Orange County Register. Check back
What are you doing in May 2009? Not sure yet? Well, try to pencil in a few days for OC Music Fest 09, which happens in about 10 months in Irvine and promises to feature nearly 100 established and up-and-coming bands.
In the meantime, you creative types may want to enter the Be The Shirt band/artist T-shirt design contest.
For details regarding the contest and festival, read the press release after the jump.
Got a pamphlet in my mailbox today about next year's OC Music Fest, slated for the weekend of May 8-10. Never heard of it? Neither had I, but whoever's behind the fest sure has some grandiose plans. Here's what's being promised: 10 "A-List" acts (and allah only knows what'll define an "A-list" band); 30 "regional bands"; 60 "unsigned bands will play"; and a crowd between "40,000-60,000 . . . are expected to enjoy this seminal event."
Notice that I said "Here's what's being promised" as oppose
Yesterday's Chinese hip-hop post got me thinking about Cold Blooded Animal, a band I fell hard for when I discovered them at a South By Southwest some years ago. They're usually described as a Chinese Nirvana, but they go deeper than that, and their lyrics sometimes bravely cross over into bold political pronouncements. The Chinese government, however, lets them be.
Here they are playing a music fest of some sort in their homeland . . .
Back in October, the inestimable Rich Kane blogged What the hell is the OC Music Festival?, wondering about the proposed OC Music Festival scheduled for May 2009 that we had heard about but knew precious few details about--minor things like where it was to be held, for instance.Well, we still know very little, but we do know that the May 2009 date isn't happening (makes sense, since, y'know, there's still no information about the festival out there). According to the offical Web site, it's now s
For those of you with cash to burn, there is no better excuse for a pre-summer sonic excursion than the arrival of South by Southwest. The ability to stumble around the Austin bar scene with a new noise at every turn has turned this Spring music festival into the beast that it is today after 22 years. This year, a well-respected round-up of OC and LB bands are putting our little sliver of culture on the radar. Included are bands like Crystal Antlers (pictured) and south county darlings Japanese
Had he not passed away in 2001 at the age of 49, Joey Ramone would be turning 58 years young today. It's hard to believe that three of the four original Ramones are no longer with us. Yeah, there's always that "as long as the music's here, they're here, maaaann" bullshit, but I don't buy that. The tunes are in fact still here, but it's not the same cranking "Havana Affair" knowing the band that penned some of the best tunes of the 20th century barely made it to see the 21st. Needless to say, the
Oh yes. For the third year in a row, the Vans Warped Tour is kicking off at the Pomona Fairplex (in, uh, Pomona). It's also the 15th anniversary of the Warped Tour! Hooray.Performing on this opening gig: Bad Religion, NOFX, Less Than Jake, TSOL, Thrice, the Maine, Scary Kids Scaring Kids, Meg & Dia, the Ataris, Underoath, local band Janu and the Whalesharks (who, at a recent gig this month at the Gypsy Lounge, seemed surprised themselves that they were on the bill) and Dear and the Headlight
When Delta Spirit played Detroit Bar back in March, the Costa Mesa venue was as packed as it's ever been. Like, "I have the sweat of 200 strangers intermingling on my skin" packed. So it stands to reason that post- the San Diego band's national tour with the Shins and their spot at Bonnaroo (with a gig at August's Lollapalooza looming on the horizon), lead singer Matt Vasquez's solo show at Detroit on July 18 will probably also be pretty packed, even if it's not the whole band. That's a Saturday
