Merle Haggard's concert at the Grove of Anaheim, scheduled for Dec. 4, has been canceled. Refunds are available at the point of purchase.
The official line is the show was scrapped due to "health issues;" the beloved country legend had surgery this Monday to remove a cancerous growth from his right lung. All the best to the Hag.
Er, yeah. Apparently even our local live music venues are still recovering from the holidays, as the only on-sale date of note I could find is Merle Haggard at the Grove of Anaheim on Feb. 5. But as far as solitary announcements, that's pretty good. It's the Hag! Country legend! And his show scheduled for Dec. 4 at the same venue was canceled a couple months ago due to health reasons (lung cancer!), so it's encouraging that the um, haggard, 71-year-old singer is apparently feeling better.Tickets
Saturday Night: Iris DeMent at the Richard and Karen Carpenter Performing Arts Center at California State University, Long Beach; September 26, 2009.
Better Than: Plenty!Iris DeMent is country because in the country is where you still find things living tough and wild; tonight she wore a polka-dot dress and eggshell-blue cowboy boots and when she pumped the pedals on the piano, her heels would dip and scoop like she was bouncing around on top of a horse.
