Truthy and hard-hitting as ever, last night Stephen Colbert took on the burning question: is OC Congressional Rep. Loretta Sanchez a whore? You can find his answer (no) here. Look for Last Night's Highlights, and scroll down to California Values Watch: Sanchez.
Those interested in Stephen's answer and his explanation of how the question started burning in the first place-- as well as those who want to know which Hilton sister Sanchez is most like-- better hurry. The video's available at the
Wrong side of the Street: Everyone and his mother is nagging OC Treasurer Chriss Street to step down in the midst of federal and local probes. (C'mon, even temporarily? asks the LAT's Dana Parsons.) But nu-uh, no-way, no-how, Street told reporters yesterday, handing them a 3-inch-thick binder filled with "facts" he believes the media should be reporting to clear his name. Patrick Desmond, who ran against Street last year, is crossing his fingers.
More Sanchez protests: Earlier in the month, six
Amid gifts of flowers, hand-made placards and shouts of "We love you Loretta!" from a crowd of approximately 20 people, Rep. Loretta Sanchez--Orange County's lone Democratic voice in Congress--returned from a trip to Vietnam.
A website, perhaps tied to Sanchez, has posted a video of her arrival celebration at Los Angeles International Airport. You can see it here.
Details of her trip aren't yet know. Hell, I didn't even know she was gone. Communist Party officials, who govern Vietnam, haven'
Police State: Politicians of both major political parties who are frightened by police unions have written laws that give police incredibly wide latitude to use force against citizens and keep their own wrongdoings secret. And, of course, police departments routinely grab even more power for themselves. Case in point: buried in a Los Angeles Times article this morning on police misconduct at a MacArthur Park immigration protest was a jewel straight out of a Philip K. Dick novel. In 1996, LAPD w
While the rest of Orange County hit the beach today or watched the San Diego Chargers upset the Colts (Yes!), Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez showed one reason why she keeps winning elections and annoying the local Republican Party. A clipboard-toting Sanchez--and three accompanying aides--registered new voters in her district that's gerrymandered through Santa Ana, Anaheim and Garden Grove. Wearing black pants and a red and white striped rugby shirt not befitting the 80 degree SoCal heat, our co
Relax.
It's not what it seems.
New campaign-finance disclosure reports filed today in Washington, D.C., show that Irvine attorney Steve Young, a Democrat, has collected an impressive amount of contributions in his uphill bid to unseat Representative John Campbell.
Included in the $64,555 Young (pictured) has raised since July was a $2,300 contribution from Jason Luna, the San Diego man who beat 100 women earlier this year to become the first million-dollar winner on NBC's 1 vs. 100.

Sanchez Slayer?North Orange County state Assemblyman Van Tran announced thru the Register's Martin Wisckol today that he hopes to be the 2010 Republican challenger to OC's lone Democratic member of congress: Loretta Sanchez. The news is as surprising as a six-hour traffic jam on the 55 or four-year-old, three-foot pot holes in Santa Ana.Over the last 13 years, local Republican Party heavyweights, disturbed they lost a unanimous Republican congressional delegation in Washington, have made no sec
On my KPFK-FM 90.7 radio show this Tuesday, I interviewed a member of the Orange County Dream Team, a group of undocumented college students. This past Saturday, they and other supporters met with Congresswomen Loretta Sanchez, seeking her co-sponsorship of the DREAM Act, which would create a path to citizenship for college students who have lived in this country illegally for years. You'd figure Loretta--who owes her career to illegals, from the days of Hermandad Mexicana Nacional to Tan Nguyen
Photo by Christopher VictorioMarch of the graduates.UPDATED WITH LINK TO SLIDESHOW...Last night's bittersweet mock graduation ceremony for students caught in the horrible, perpetual limbo of being educated, bright and ready to work, but denied the chance to because of their illegal immigration status, was not attended by the congresswoman they once considered their champion and ally (and who has relied heavily on the support of illegal immigrants in her narcissistic-forget-your-roots climb to th
Several thousand words into Mark Leibovich's 8,000-word New York Times Magazine piece titled "Who Can Possibly Govern California?" our own superstar Latina of Congress pops up briefly.Recently I called Loretta Sanchez,
the outspoken and increasingly visible Democratic congresswoman from
Orange County, who had been mentioned as a possible candidate if
[Los Angeles Mayor Antonio] Villaraigosa did not run. She described a "hypothetical" candidate who

News item: The Federal Election Commission says Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez (D-Garden Grove) improperly used campaign money to buy new clothes, bringing to mind the flap last year when it was discovered the Republican National Committee spent more than $150,000 on designer clothing and accessories for vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin and her family.Fallout: There is but one recourse, and that is a Loretta Sanchez-Sarah Palin fashion smackdown! After the jump you will see each politic

The congresswoman presses the flesh at Little Saigon's Tet Festival.
For years and years and years--beginning long before most of you were born--Clockwork has taken potshots at Rep. Loretta Sanchez (D-Garden Grove). For that, this wind-up Cracker Jacks timepiece has never received an official response from her office.
Until today.
Adrienne Elrod, Sanchez's chief of staff, apparently saw this morning's post, "Loretta Sanchez-Sarah Pal
Busty: More liberal than Loretta?Only in the Bizarro world that is Orange County Latino politics can you have a brownie Republican be more Aztlanista than a brownie Dem, yet that's what happened last week. In a symbolic resolution, the SanTana City Council expressed their support for the DREAM Act, which seeks to legalize hundreds of thousands of illegal youngsters (not just Mexicans, by the way) in this country. The vote was 5-0, and I initially assumed that the two absent members were Mayor
Priceless!From Latino Politics blogger Adriana Maestas:Loretta Sanchez's blond highlights = $90
Loretta Sanchez's skim latte = $3.75
Loretta Sanchez's gerrymandered district = $20,000
Loretta opening her mouth for the New York Times = priceless! For everything else, there's Mastercard.
That would be the fantasy advertisement for Maestas' damning post on Sanchez, which follows after the jump. Clockwork also contacted Sanchez's office for a reaction. This post will be updated when that
