Sat., Nov. 18: Too bad there's already a Best of the Lemonheads album on the shelves, and badder still that it was compiled by Atlantic Records (and not lead Lemonhead, Evan Dando): tonight's set would have made an epic greatest hits tracklist. Tunes from Come on Feel laid like cozy bed buddies with favorites off It's a Shame About Ray ("Turnpike Down," "Alison's Starting to Happen," "Rudderless") and Car Button Cloth ("If I Could Talk I'd Tell You"), saving just enough room for new numbers li
Over at her Deadline Hollywood Daily column, Nikki Finke charts all the controversies swirling around American Idol contestant Tom Lowe.
Her piece begins:
American Idol 6 would be nothing without its controversy. The latest: 28-year-old ex-British boy-band'er Tom Lowe is the target of not just one but four controversies, which is a rarity even for that Fox show. Allegations include that Lowe is too successful, or too well-connected, to compete fairly on the show. Then there's the fact this runn

So… I've got this part-time job where, in three years, I haven't worked one second of overtime. Until last night. This meant having to scramble to get to Alex's Bar in time to see opening act Los Mysteriosos, which just so happens to be bar owner Alex Hernandez's group. I don't make a habit of getting to shows earlier enough to catch the first ba
In the most awesome co-headlining tour since 2004's "The Independent Tour" with Kelly Clarkson and Clay Aiken, buzz-building Seattle-originated bands Low vs. Diamond (who were here last month opening up for Santogold) and Barcelona are currently on the road together.
Cool, right? What's cooler is that said tour is coming to Detroit Bar in Costa Mesa on Dec. 9. That's pretty soon! Tickets are $10, and on sale now right here. Opening up on this date is Orange County's The Shys.
Here's the video
KIIS-FM held their December "Jingle Ball" concert at the Honda Center, and they're returning to Orange County for their spring "Wango Tango" concert, happening May 9 at the Verizon Wireless Amphitheater. It's an equally impressive pop-filled lineup, featuring among others, as you've no doubt guessed from this picture, Kelly "surely not tired by now of people talking about her weight" Clarkson. I've had "My Life Would Suck Without You" in my head all morning, so surely this announcement is a sign
Well, kinda...For those who can stay up late, MTV has announced a novel concept called AMTV. The show, which airs from 3-9 a.m. Monday through Thursday, does nothing but air music videos for six hours. Call me crazy, but this might be the start of something new. I mean, I could even see this expanding into hours when people are actually awake.I'm not sure if AMTV is going for something particular because two nights ago I saw Billy Idol's "White Wedding" followed by some Kelly Clarkson song. Some
OMG. Fairs and Kelly Clarkson, two of my favorite things, together at last on July 23. What a day.The lineup for acts for this year's OC Super Fair is shaping up, and if you like nostalgia, well, this is the event for you! Other than Ms. Clarkson, it's pretty much all oldsters: Hearts, Moody Blues, Duran Duran (awesome, yes, but still old), etc. Sure, it's a fair, what do you expect, blah blah blah, but some of my best music memories came from the Arizona State Fair: Bob Dylan in 2002 (OK, he's
It's, apparently, radio station concert season--tomorrow at Verizon Wireless Amphitheater in Irvine is KIIS-FM's Wango Tango show, featuring pop luminaries as illustrious as Kelly Clarkson herself (pictured); next Saturday at the same venue is the Weezer-fronted KROQ Weenie Roast. The Black Eyed Peas, whose lovably inane single "Boom Boom Pow" (the latest in a number of lovably inane singles by them) has been on top of the Billboard chats for like 87 weeks in a row, are headlining. Also playing:
It was a busy weekend in OC Weeklyville, but what else is new? Here's some of the cool stuff we were at the past couple days:Wango Tango at Verizon Wireless Amphitheater: Black Eyed Peas! (Pictured.) Kelly Clarkson! Flo Rida! Lady Gaga! Somewhat inexplicably, All-American Rejects! Chris Victorio hung tough Saturday at the former Irvine Meadows, coming back with these pics of the aforementioned currently hot pop superstars. Imagine that crowd. Yeah.Grand Duchy at Detroit Bar: Former Pixies frontm
Ah, yes, the only American Idol winner that ever mattered--not to mention the only one we don't hate--Kelly Clarkson visited the Pacific Amphitheater in Costa Mesa last night. It was beautiful, it was crowded, there was plenty of kettle corn and beer strewn about... and photographer Chris Victorio was there, naturally. Click here to see more photos from the night.
Taylor Herron photographyIt's always interesting to hear people say the good hip hop doesn't exist in Orange County. It's a rather defeatist attitude. Don't you know all you have to do is turn over the right rock to find what you need? In this case, the Lake Forest emcees of Rock Bottom are just one example of the goodness you can find underground. This saliva slanging set of artists (emcees pictured left to right: Bumps the GooseGot, Elephant Pelican and Innate) are always on the move, so yo
