  • LYT's Film Pick of the Weekend 6-15-07

Note: This will be a weekly blog feature, as our award-winning film critic recommends at least one newly released film to see over the weekend. Sometimes it will be speculative; others, based on actual films seen. Opinions of LYT do not necessarily reflect those of other human beings. DOA: DEAD OR ALIVE The Weinsteins clearly want to kill this film dead, releasing it on the same day as a mega-budget superhero film starring Jessica Alba, and giving it little or no fanfare. I don't know why –

  • Comic-Con 2007: Of Paramount Disappointment, plus Jessica Alba and Peter Fonda

Damn, the lines here suck. Used to be that Comic-Con got bigger every year, and they expanded the available space to fit. Then the space ran out, and stuff kept getting bigger anyway. I wait in line half an hour for the Paramount panel, and don't even get close to getting in. Regroup. An hour later, get in line an hour early for the Lionsgate panel. Line is all the way to the back loading dock. I get in. But this astonishes me: after all that wait, once initial guest Jessica Alba is done, half

  • Comic-Con 2007: The Lionsgate Party

LYT crashed (OK, was invited to) last night's Lionsgate party on the roof of San Diego's Ivy hotel. He got pictures of a host of celebs, including Jessica Alba, Vinnie Jones and SAW director Darren Lynn Bousman (below). Click the photo to see those and more.

  • Comic-Con 2007: Jericho

Surprisingly easy to get into this panel, which doesn't necessarily bode well for the future of Jericho on CBS. Saved from cancellation by rabid fans, it's gonna need more support to survive a full second year. I walk in on the tail-end of a panel for 4400 with Jeffrey Combs and blue-bearded Ira Steven Behr. Ira makes a crack about how Jeffrey isn't like the characters he plays -- he's actually really boring. Jeffrey responds that of course Ira would think that, "because you're not that smart."

  • Last Night: THE EYE at The Block in Orange

An imagined conversation deep within the halls of Lionsgate’s marketing department, a year or so ago... SUIT 1: Curses! Those dastardly critics have finally realized that when we don’t show one of our horror movies to them in advance, that means it sucks! SUIT 2: Screw ‘em. Critics all hate horror movies anyway. Besides, that godawful EPIC MOVIE did fine for Fox with no reviews. SUIT 1: Yeah, for like one day, until people realized the critics were right. They’re starting to catch on!
