  • Last Night: The Cure @ Shrine Auditorium

Last Night: The Cure at the Shrine Auditorium June 1st, 2008 Better Than: Trying to find parking at the Hollywood Bowl. Download: "The End Of The World" from The Cure Homepage. After selling out the Hollywood Bowl, The Cure added another stop to their itinerary as they played the Shrine Auditorium. I would venture to say a good majority of the audience was in attendance at the Hollywood Bowl the previous night as well. Sixty five days of Static stated the obvious when they announced to the

The Weekly's standing columns, ¡Ask a Mexican!, Hey, You! and Savage Love.Restaurant reviews of OC's nudie bars and Taqueria Los Grandes.Culture focuses on a history of OC's theatrical naughtiness and Trendzilla talks about hating Valentine's Day.Ou

Photo by Andrew YoussefLast Night: Jimmy Eat World, No Knife at Club Nokia, Los Angeles, March 5, 2009.Better than: Hearing John Mayer do his song "Clarity."Preemptive justification: Sure, we don't really cover LA shows here, but I haven't reviewed one since Jenny Lewis at the Orpheum back in October, so I think it's OK."I still like Jimmy Eat World, even though it's not cool to like them anymore." That's what photographer Andrew Youssef said when we first talked about going to see Jimmy Eat Wor

  • Last Night: Rufus Wainwright at the House of Blues

Last Night: Rufus Wainwright and Lucy Roche Wainwright at the House of Blues Anaheim. Better Than: A night at the Met.  Best Overheard Question: "Is Rufus gay?"   Download: Poses; "14th Street" off Want One It was the most dressed down I'd ever seen Rufus Wainwright, which, if you've ever had the pleasure, is a pretty big deal. His un-ironed denim button-up was tucked into an average pair of jeans; strappy Jesus sandals  adorned his feet. The only hint of Rufus' usual thought-out

Last Night: Beck at Club Nokia November 9, 2008. Better Than: seeing Beck at the Hollywood Bowl. Download: "Gamma Ray" from the Beck website [http://www.modernguilt.com/#4] It was a grand evening for the grand opening of Club Nokia in downtown Los Angeles. Club Nokia appears to have studied many of the strong attributes of other concert venues before finalizing the design on their newest creation. • This Month: Free Classical Concerts

In this recession-plagued economy, the most enticing word has to be free. Free is good, free is seductive. It usually doesn't really matter what that free is (within reason). As long as you don't have to pay for it then why in the world are you complaining? To capitalize on that theme, here are a series of classical concerts coming up this month that are family friendly, fun, and--did I mention--free? Just remember to bring some beach chairs, blankets and munchies. After that, sit back and r

  • Outgoing: Aerosmith Cancel Remainder of their Summer Tour

Sorry, classic rock fans. Steven Tyler falling off the stage in a much-publicized incident at a concert last week in Sturgis, South Dakota means that Aerosmith has to cancel the remainder of their summer tour with ZZ Top. Logically, this includes the Verizon Wireless Amphitheater in Irvine date scheduled for August 23. Ticket refunds are available at the point of purchase. In cheerier news, despite Depeche Mode canceling shows including tonight's at the Cricket Wireless Amphitheater in Chula V
