  • Prepare Thyself for a Miracle: Boredoms Live in SoCal

Yet another post about Boredoms? I'm afraid so. I consider these Osaka geniuses to be among the greatest live bands on the planet. Boredoms bring their transcendental, chaostrophic [sic] psychedelia to Canes in San Diego March 15 and to Henry Fonda Theater in LA March 16 (no OC date, naturally), reports Pitchfork. This is cause for much rejoicing. Boredoms' live performances are like Mardi Gras multiplied by the greatest drum circle ever, on three hits of pure MDMA. Here are Boredoms (aka

  • Ghostland Observatory Sneak Preview

Austin, Texas' Ghostland Observatory are poised to blow up with their Feb. 26 album Robotique Majestique (on their own Trashy Moped label). Here's a track, “Dancin' on My Grave (Let There Be Vinyl Remix),” from that album to whet your appetite for it. Sounds pretty tough and noisy for an indie-dance single. GO play Henry Fonda in LA April 18 and the Joshua Tree Music Festival May 16.

  • Last Night: Film School at the Continental Room

Better Than: Driving all the way to Los Angeles and paying to park. Download: "Lectric" from their album Hideout Some bands have a difficult time replicating their sound in the live format. Film School are not one of those bands, as they manage to drown their audience in waves of sound. In order to stir up these massive waves of sound, Film School usually bring along a sound guy to obtain that perfect mix, but the sound gal at the Continental Room did her best. Film School triggered their av

  • Last Night: Nine Inch Nails at the Wiltern

Andrew YoussefTrent Reznor, literally waving goodbye.Last Night: Nine Inch Nails at the Wiltern, Los Angeles; September 10, 2009. Better Than: The Kiss "Farewell" tour. My calculated guess of "Last" or "The Beginning of The End" as the first song for Nine Inch Nails final show was wrong. "Home" will go down in the books as the beginning of the end.

  • On Sale Friday: Devo (in LA)

Yes, it's at the Henry Fonda Theater in Los Angeles, but who cares? Devo is playing and if that ain't enough reason to get in your car and drive north, I don't know what is.Oh, maybe the fact that one of my favorite bands of all time is playing its classic Q: Are We Not Men? We Are Devo! album in its entirety on Nov. 3 and Freedom of Choice on Nov. 4. Buy your tickets online and get rare demo versions of "Whip It," "Turn Around" and "Red Shark."Folks, my birthday is in November (and it's the

  • Last Night: The Raveonettes at the Detroit Bar

Andrew YoussefLive at the Detroit Bar Last Night: The Raveonettes at the Detroit BarBetter Than: breaking Phil Spector out of jail to produce new albums. How could the Raveonettes top their fuzzy masterpiece album Lust, Lust, Lust? More focus and a little less fuzz. In and Out of Control is aptly named, with eleven songs that span the Raveonettes' sonic spectrum. "Gone Forever" is my favorite tune from their latest album: Its ultra-sticky chorus quickly had my foot tapping. The Raveonettes pro
