  • Killer month at DiPiazza's

I don't work in the marketing department at DiPiazza's Restaurant & Lounge, but maybe I should. I just took a gander at their April schedule and they've got some great stuff lined up. Wednesday is Adam's Dagger, a Long Beach band that just had a streaming song on Punknews. Friday is Fishbone. 'nuff said. April 10 is Mike Watt  the Missingmen, Mojo Wire (featuring Monique Powell, formerly of Save Ferris) and the Jack Brewer Reunion Band (featuring members of Saccharine Trust)

Ok, so this wasn't last night. It was Saturday night. But if you kept partying all weekend and didn't go to sleep, maybe it was last night. Either way, Instagon played its 500th show at HB's Blue Cafe and I'm glad I went. The older I get, the less I'm impressed with bands that play traditional songs. I like groups that just get up there and go for it. And there aren't many bands that "go for it" more than the Texas Corrugators and Instagon. Led by bassist Greg Ginn, the usual three-piece a

  • Update on tomorrow's Instagon show

If you read my story on Instagon's 500th show (and I know you did), you know that Instagon head honcho Lob plans on bringing a slew of guests to play with him. I hate to spoil the surprise, but Lob sent out an email with a list of people he expects to take the stage. And because I'm either a nice guy or a meanie who tells children there's no Santa Claus, here's that info. "scheduled to appear AS Instagon 500: Lob - lead bass, vocalsCary Pealer (punk as a doornail) - drums, pe

  • Last Night: ALL at the House of Blues

I don't write show reviews that often, but when I do, Las Vegas seems to be involved (click here to figure out what the hell I mean). Now that you're back, let me tell you about the ALL/Big Drill Car/My Name show Saturday at the House of Blues. I left for Vegas Thursday at 8 p.m. and got back into Long Beach around 6 p.m. Saturday. The trip was very last minute, one that was supposed to last until Sunday. But I'd had plans to check out ALL with my friend Ryan Slowgun (formerly of OC Weekly favs S
