Just when I thought I was done writing about the national anthem, an alert reader who was never a contestant in the Miss Teen USA pageant (which is a shame, since given the circumstances, he was probably a shoe-in for the Congeniality award) , tipped me to this story from ABC's Nightline.
Nightline dispatched an intrepid reporter to Capitol Hill to ask members of Congress their views on the singing of the anthem in languages other than English. The results were predictable: "The often-partisan
Today we spoke with Cassie DeYoung, candidate for Orange County Supervisor. She has an uphill battle against Pat Bates, a former Assemblywoman and cog in the Republican Party machine. Bates has the support of Congressmen Ken Calvert and Gary Miller, the OC GOP, the Transportation Corridor Agencies, Assemblywoman Mimi Walters and pretty much everyone else who makes me nauseous. DeYoung on the other hand has earned her party's enmity for courting Democrats and detailing certain aspects of the lo
Is it any wonder that Congressman Gary Miller (R-Diamond Bar) coasts to easy wins every election? His district, the 42nd (which covers eastern OC and doglegs down over Mission Viejo), is one of the state's most reliably Republican districts, and Gary Miller doesn't just embrace those beliefs Republicans hold dear, he puts his beliefs into action.
Republicans believe in low taxes, and Gary Miller will meet any challenge, bear any burden, to keep taxes low-- for Gary Miller. This morning's Los A
Some of the FBI agents not busy investigating what you're pulling out of the tubes of the internet are engaged in truly worthwhile work: investigating the imaginative land deals of Congressman Gary Miller (R-Diamond Bar, and one of the 20 most corrupt members of Congress according to Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington). I'm sure the more accountant-y agents are enjoying Miller's interesting approach to paying taxes, which was touched on in the post, Public Service for Fun and
A variety of stories lurching forward this morning…
It looks like the most special of all special elections is finally over, and Janet Nguyen is the new First District Supervisor, winning by a total of 3 votes. Superior Court Judge Michael Brenner rejected Trung Nguyen's claim that the election's recount was performed in an illegal manner. The winning Nguyen is scheduled to be sworn in tomorrow at the Board of Supes weekly meeting. There are dark rumblings that th
We're re-posting this Oct. 10, 2005, post because:
a) A reader wondered why the Weekly had never connected slime-ball GOP lobbyist Jack Abramoff to our smurfin' Congressman Dana Rohrabacher (R-Huntington Beach). As the post shows, Clockwork had (and Moxley will mention it in Thursday's edition).
2) For reasons only the gremlins of cyberspace know, the item, "FOO Fighter," never got transferred over from our old database to our--cough, cough, cough--new improved database.
thirdly) You'll need w
LA's City Beat breaks the story today about Orange County's own blogger/candidate for Congress, Ron Shepston.
The Vietnam vet and avionics engineer was urged to run for Congress by a group of like-minded Southern California bloggers when they noticed no one was running against Republican incumbent Gary Miller in the 42nd Congressional District. Miller ran unapposed last year despite corruption allegations (he's currently under investigation by the FBI) for tax evasion. Shepston accepted the in
Worm Attack in Dana Point? TMZ reports that Orange County police are investigating former Los Angeles Laker/Chicago Bull Dennis Rodman for allegedly committing a “crime” inside the Hennessy's Tavern near PCH in Dana Point. The celebrity website says Rodman was accused of slapping a female customer's ass so hard it left a “major mark.”
No word on what part of his anatomy did the slapping.
Jim Amormino, sheriff's spokesman, said dicks in his department's “sex crimes unit” are on
Congressman Gary Miller (R-Diamond Bar) has jack-assed his way back into the news. Seems he owns $20,000 in toll road bonds. What's the big deal? Miller is a big-time toll-road supporter, putting his signature on letters of support to the project as well as garnering earmark after earmark of pork-barrel tax-payer dollars for the project, the completion of which is necessary for the return of Miller's money.
The Register tried out a new tactic this week and actually did some reporting for a chan
