With apologies to Orange County Register sports genius Randy Youngman, notes, quotes and observations from my first book signing at Librería Martínez last Thursday: *Fliers for the event promised free tequila for adults courtesy of SanTana-based La Tequilera, but some pendeja called the city to complain about this--nevermind that no temporary liquor license is required if you give away booze for gratis. Not only that, but said woman berated Mr. Martinez for hosting me in the first

  • Memphis at the Santora's New Night Menu--Try the Meatloaf Sandwich (Seriously!)

Pardon this unasimmilated Mexican, but what is the great gabacho aversion to meatloaf? I've enjoyed it the dozen or so times I've tasted the meat--not my favorite carnal creation, but also no headcheese (another much-maligned butcher offering). • Memphis to Open New Restaurant in Manhattan Beach

The much-beloved Memphis Restaurant (both its Costa Mesa and SanTana locations) will soon have a third addition to their family: Memphis at the Beach. Head chef Diego Velasco told me recently they expect to open their first non-OC venture early in July. Methinks Edwin will go on a field trip soon...in the meanwhile, "Memphis, Tennessee" by
