  • Free crap that came in the mail

You think these are cupcakes. But in fact, they are "Beasley Poppers," and Paris Hilton likes them. In the interests of objectivity, since they were sent to me for some reason -- most likely because of my stunning resemblance to Paris Hilton -- I recuse myself from reviewing them, and instead defer to some of my fellow staffers. Gustavo Arellano [making a shrugging gesture]: "Mm-ph." Derek Olson: "It's diabetilicious." Janine Kahn: "Things taste better when they're free." Vickie Chang:

  • What you missed over the weekend: Part IX

The Gothla Festival hit Fullerton from Friday to Sunday, and we were there in full force. Christopher Victorio took some beautiful pictures of the ladies gyrating in all sorts of intricate outfits at Saturday night's Gothic Gala. (Check those out here.) Luke Thompson and Derek Olson were also in attendance and will be posting some video on Navel Gazing later today. Clubs photographer Fever Dragon spent Friday evening on board The Rocket Boat in Alamitos Harbor for a punk lineup that included th

  • What you missed over the weekend: Part XII

Jewlicious Festival 4.0, the largest youth festival celebrating contemporary Jewish culture and identity, was held in Long Beach over the Feb. 29 - March 2 weekend at the Barbara and Ray Alpert Jewish Community Center. Reza Allah-Bakhshi dropped by on Saturday and caught internationally acclaimed rapper Y-Love, human beatbox Yuri Lane and Moshav. Check out his photos here. Also in attendance was our Derek Olson, who shot some video that will grace Heard Mentality later today. Luke Thompson drov

  • What You Missed Over The Weekend Part XVIII

This weekend began on Thursday thanks to Rockstar Energy's Taste of Chaos tour coming to Long Beach arena. Weekly staffers and freelancers headed out and experienced the shenanigans reporting back later, hung over and rocked out. Music Editor Dave Segal spent Friday taking in Crystal Castles at Detroit Bar and tapping his foot furiously to the skinny-jeaned electro beats. Sadly, it was too hot and packed in there to bust out any non-existent repertoire of dance moves (view photos here). Meanwhi

  • What You Missed Over The Weekend Part XXII

Memorial Day Edition Long weekends aren't just for relaxing. OC Weekly staffer Luke Y. Thompson kept himself busy by going to the Scottish festival at the OC fair, where he found some of his very distant relatives from the Clan Graham. He also attended a cookout with a bunch of other (relatively) young movie critics, among them Todd Gilchrist, Brent Simon, Dave White, and Alonso Duralde. But all of this action didn't stop him from writing his weekly Fast Food Review, this week features the many

  • Babies, Porn Stars and Mixed-Martial Artists

New York Post Page 6 columnist Richard Johnson reports today that retired porn star Jenna Jameson is having “Huntington Beach Bad Boy” Tito Ortiz's love child. Well, at least we think it's Tito's. Pity the fool who is the father if it is not. By the by, our image of Ortiz was shot by former Weekly staffer Luke Y. Thompson, who covered the North American Mixed Martial Arts Association Expo back in December on this very site. It's unclear whether the amazing LYT will be invited into the la

  • All Gaza, All the Time for One Muslim Student Union Watcher

***UPDATED*** As former Weekly reporter Derek Olson mentions in this piece, recent UC Irvine graduate Reut R. Cohen keeps tabs on the campus' controversial Muslim Student Union on her blog. But, understandably, it's been all Gaza, all the time in recent days. Cohen (left) provides video "inside a Hamas meeting" and of Benjamin Netanyaho delivering a Gaza statement in English. She also provides links to the latest news reports out of Israel.  It's the same story over at Litt
