The Associated Press in Seattle reported this morning that IRS agents recently busted a massive tax-shelter scheme with potential ties to Santa Ana and Fountain Valley.
According to federal court documents unsealed yesterday, Robert Arant created a "warehouse bank" that allowed "people who wanted the discretion of a Swiss bank account without going to Switzerland." Arant faces angry IRS agents for allegedly helping hundreds of citizens around the country evade taxes on at least $28 million.

John Gilhooley / OC WeeklyToday, Dr. Orly Taitz Esq., the Laguna Niguel dentist, lawyer and real estate agent who is attempting to sue Barack Obama out of office, appeared before Judge David O. Carter in Santa Ana's Ronald Reagan Federal Courthouse. The occasion: a hearing in her lawsuit, Barnett vs Obama. We were there.Midway through the hour-and-change hearing, it became clear that in Taitz's mind, today was going to be a day straight out of a Dean Koontz-Dan Brown mash-up novel. It didn't
Whew, that was a long one. Laguna Niguel dentist/lawyer Orly Taitz, along with her co-counsel/nemesis Gary Kreep, spent a couple hours this morning in the Santa Ana Ronald Reagan Federal Building and Courthouse arguing why Judge David O. Carter shouldn't throw their case against Barack Obama out of court.Carter's verdict? Eh, give him more time. No ruling today. The courtroom discussion rambled across a range of topics, from John McCain's birth in Panama to Taitz's oppressed family in Siberia.
Oh, television. Last night, comedian and budding political pundit Joy Behar had Orange County's own Orly Taitz on her new HLN show. Whereas past cable news appearances for Taitz have seen our "eligibility" activist in panic mode from the mere few seconds of air time she was given and the decibel level of the hostile hosts, Behar gave Taitz nearly a full nine minutes to do her best to come off as a sane dissident. Watch:
I hope you'll indulge me stepping out of my normal "impassioned Taitz chroni
John Gilhooley / OC WeeklyDr. Orly Taitz believes that Barack Obama wants to destroy America, but lately she's been dealing with a different threat: the defection of her former allies in the "eligibility" (a.k.a. "birther") movement. The lawsuit against Taitz from fellow birther lawyer Phil Berg has been given a full public airing, as has been her in-court kerfuffle with co-counsel Gary Kreep. It's been widely reported, too, that potential crazy person Larry Sinclair -- the guy who claims he
The Ledger-Enquirer of Columbus, Georgia, reports today that Orly Taitz, the Orange County attorney who reigns as queen bee to the Obama "birther" movement, is representing a "conscientious objector" who refuses to deploy to Iraq*, not because he's a pacifist or because George Bush authorized the invasion of the country on bogus claims, but because President Obama isn't a U.S. citizen. That's right: As everyone knows, Barack Hussein Obama was born in Indonesia or somewhere, but definitely not Hon
Besides asking for donations to help pay off the $20,000 fine imposed upon her by a Georgia judge last week, Laguna Niguel's Orly Taitz has been lately filling her blog with comments from contributors making hay about a law clerk working in the office of David Carter, the judge who's been hearing her lawsuit against Barack Obama in federal court in Santa Ana.The target is Siddharth Velamoor. Wikipedia, apparently, listed him as a clerk for Carter. Previously, he worked at law firm Perki
Judge David O. Carter today threw out Dr. Orly Taitz's Barnett v. Obama lawsuit against President Obama. This was the lawsuit filed with dozens of plaintiffs, in Santa Ana Federal court, with a judge that seemed to listen patiently to the legal theories of Taitz and co-counsel Gary Kreep.Read the judge's opinion here.Essentially, Carter ruled that the courts don't have the power to remove a sitting president -- only Congress does -- and therefor the case could not move forwards. In addition,
WikicommonsThe execution of Guy Fawkes' (Guy Fawkes), by Claes (Nicolaes) Jansz Visscher,The reactions to yesterday's dismissal of Orly Taitz's Barnett v. Obama lawsuit continue to pour in. Taitz has been publishing letters from her followers non-stop on her blog. This charmer just got put up, addressing Federal Judge David O. Carter, who presides in Santa Ana:
John Gilhooley, OC WeeklyMaybe we will get another date with Orly Taitz in Santa Ana's Ronald Reagan Federal Building and Courthouse after all. Less than two weeks after Judge David O. Carter dismissed the Laguna Niguel's Barnett v. Obama lawsuit seeking to throw the President out of office, Taitz has filed a motion for reconsideration of that case. And boy is it... interesting. Some might call the motion racially and politically offensive, but, whatever. Like any battle for freedom, Orly's wa
