  • Surprisingly Robust Monday Night Music Options

Monday isn't typically a great night for live music (or much of anything--just ask Garfield!), but there's several things on the docket today. We've got a record release show from San Diego screamo-ers In Fear and Faith at Chain Reaction, seen rather nattily dressed above. On their MySpace you can listen to their rather unique cover of Coolio's "Gangsta Paradise," which is some good fun. There's also the first night of the January Monday night residency at Detroit Bar, where the same bands play a

  • Flier of the Week: Allensworth and Boogaloo Assassins

I'm actually pretty torn about this flier. On one hand, I'm all, "Hey, a naked lady! Whoohoo!" On the other hand, I'm like, "Aww man. That naked lady has gross lesions and scales all over her body and some sort of weird face on her boobs." Which is, you know, less exciting. It's for the Allensworth (Huntington Beach) and Boogaloo Assassins (Los Angeles) concert at Detroit Bar on Saturday. (I fully realize that the ol' HM has been a bit Detroit Bar heavy this week, but hey, they've had a lot of sh

  • TONIGHT: Last Night of Mothers Sons/Daniel Morones Detroit Bar Residency

After you've completed your traditional Chinese New Year meal--your fish, your long life noodles, your mandarin oranges--and you're looking for something to do, you should seriously consider heading to Detroit Bar for the last night of the Mothers Sons/Daniel Morones residency, a chance to see both of these fine OC acts for the always appealing price of free. Is there a better way to ring in the year of the Ox?The ever effervescent Erin DeWitt reviewed Daniel Morones last year in Locals Only; I

  • Trying to Make Sense of the OC Music Awards Nominees

Everyone I've talked to about the OC Music Awards nominee list, released yesterday, seems to have the same reaction: Huh? Why are young, unsigned bands like The Jakes competing against veteran, internationally known acts like The Offspring, who had Billboard's #1 Hot Modern Rock Track for 11 weeks last year?
