OK Computer in sweet, sweet analog. How appropriate.
In a move that signals either grave desperation or incredible savvy (vinyl sales in America have risen by more than 80 percent in the last year, after all), Capitol/EMI—one of four remaining major labels—is firing up the vinyl presses for a series of ltd. ed., 180-gram audiophile-pleasing wax of popular titles from its voluminous catalog. These remastered LPs will include replications of their original artwork and packaging. The followin

Better Than: Watching the video for "Viva La Vida" on your new iphone.
Download: Previously unreleased track "Death Will Never Conquer" from the Coldplay.com
It's fitting that the Forum is primarily used as a church these days, with the occasional concert scheduled for variety. Coldplay descended upon the Forum preaching their own gospel as they launched the Viva La Vida tour to a sold-out crowd of faithful worshipers.
Jon Hopkins warmed up the crowd with his washes of tex
Sure, you're probably still reeling from yesterday's news that Chinese Democracy actually has a - gasp! - release date (insert joke about unlikelihood of that date being met, Best Buy exclusivity or free Dr. Pepper here), but there's plenty of shows with on-sale dates tomorrow if you manage to compose yourself in time.
Coldplay, Nov. 25 at Honda Center
On sale: 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 11 ($49.50-$97.50)
You've probably heard of these dudes before.
Blues Traveler, Nov. 13 at the House of Blues,
On Oct. 18 in 1925, the Grand Ole Opry opened in Nashville, Tennessee. Truly an important day in the annals of music history - but will it be replaced in significance by these Oct. 18 on-sale dates for upcoming Orange County shows? Only time will tell.
The Vandals Christmas Formal, Dec. 20 at the House of Blues, Anaheim
On sale: 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 18 ($16.50)
Each year, Huntington Beach punk band The Vandals play this holiday show, drawing mostly off of tracks from their wacky 1996 Christma

They're just too popular, too earnest, too derivative of The Bends-era Radiohead and too mar
BY ANNIE ZALESKIPop music often gets a bad rap for being disposable or vapid, and in many cases that's true. (Katy Perry, Danity Kane and the Pussycat Dolls, step right up!) But every year, a few irresistible bits of innovative ear candy rocket up the charts and seep into our subconscious. The following ten singles saturated the Top 40 -- or what passes for hit-oriented radio in this topsy-turvy musical climate -- while proving that accessibility doesn't necessarily preclude creativity.
Photo by Christopher VictorioInternational megastars/activists/relatively faceless British dudes other than their lead singer/producers of pleasingly mellow tunes Coldplay can't seem to stay away from Orange County, getting all up in our area once more on July 19 at Verizon Wireless Amphitheater in Irvine, less than a year after their Nov. 25 show at the Honda Center in Anaheim, whre that picture up there was taken (read my review here!). Show goes on sale a week from today (March 23), and is in
It's easy to hate on Live Nation, but they've been involved in some alright stuff lately, like the Blink 182 lawn seats that cost $20, straight-up--inclusive of parking and service fees and all that yakkety yak. The latest is "no service fees Wednesdays," which will run throughout the summer and starts this Wednesday (tomorrow!), June 3. As the name suggests, it removes dreaded service fees from lawn tickets from all sorts of big shows, like 311, Aerosmith, Coldplay, No Doubt and Dave Matthews B
Photo by Andrew YoussefLast Night: Travis, Republic Tigers at the House of Blues, Anaheim; April 9, 2009.Better Than: Seeing Travis Barker or Randy Travis (I've only seen the former, but I'm making an educated guess).Least Appealing Snack Offer: "Delicious Parmesan potato chips basket for $2.00," which was just store-bought potato chips scooped from a bowl. Very eight-grade dance, but sort of odd for a big-budget operation like the HOB.In an parallel universe somewhere, Travis is the biggest ban
Concert promoters LiveNation are offering a pretty good deal for upcoming shows at the Verizon Wireless Amphitheater (and other venues across the country that, if you are reading the OC Weekly, you probably don't care that much about). The catch is, it's good only today.Anyone who buys lawn tickets to shows at the mega Irvine venue will pay only $24.99. And to make the deal even sweeter, there are no additional fees. Yeah, you're sitting a mile away, but the lawn's where all the good weed is, so
KCRW music director Jason Bentley and I chatted for so long, that I was left with little choice but to split the Q&A into two parts. Part one is here, and enjoy, if you will, part the second, where we talk about upcoming Morning Becomes Eclectic guests, the Stars of Santa Barbara benefit event at South Coast Plaza in Costa Mesa tomorrow (Wednesday, June 24) and more.Q: What acts coming up on MBE are you looking forward to?A: Phoenix [June 29] is going to be awesome. Adele is going to stop in
The Fray kicking back.Sure, it's fun to hate Live Nation for being a giant corporation that seems to control every big concert tour in the world, but they're making it pretty tough to do so this summer. Since starting "no service fee Wednesdays" last month, they've (as one might guess) dropped those nasty service fees (I just paid $9.50 per ticket for a non-Live Nation show--ouchies!) that are a big reason people hate Live Nation/Ticketmaster/etc. so much. Nothing really worse than the feeling o
Chris VictorioWell, that kind of sneaked up on us: Coldplay, doubtlessly one of the biggest bands in the world, is playing tonight at the Verizon Wireless Amphitheater in Irvine.Nothing against the dudes, natch, it's just that they were here less than eight months ago at the Honda Center in Anaheim. Chris Victorio took that fetching picture of Chris Martin there, and I wrote this awesome review of it! It was definitely a good gig, though, and tonight's should be, too, even if it feels more right
