Remember that show from NYC's Asobi Seksu at Detroit Bar last night we were talking about? Well, Chris Victorio totally went to it! And he came back with fun pics like the one above. And there's more, here.
Oh yeah. That's the drummer from Death Hymn Number 9, pounding away at an especially zombie-filled performance Saturday night at La Cave in Costa Mesa. Chris Victorio was there, and he took fun pics like the above, with more to be seen here. The Colourists and the Studiofix also performed (DJ Oldboy spun between sets, also dressed as a zombie, call him "DJ Deadboy"); Chris has got images of all of them. And of course, the Studiofix were the subject of Locals Only this week. And there's more!
It was a busy weekend in OC Weeklyville, but what else is new? Here's some of the cool stuff we were at the past couple days:Wango Tango at Verizon Wireless Amphitheater: Black Eyed Peas! (Pictured.) Kelly Clarkson! Flo Rida! Lady Gaga! Somewhat inexplicably, All-American Rejects! Chris Victorio hung tough Saturday at the former Irvine Meadows, coming back with these pics of the aforementioned currently hot pop superstars. Imagine that crowd. Yeah.Grand Duchy at Detroit Bar: Former Pixies frontm
Another busy weekend has come and gone at OC Weeklyville, and we've got pictures from shows this past Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Friday, our old friend Leslie Agan was at the Crosby in downtown Santa Ana, taking some pics of DJ Roam. Chris Cornell's recent solo efforts have received a bit of a mixed reaction, but that didn't stop Chris Victorio from shooting some images of the former Soundgarden/Audioslave lead singer (pictured) on Saturday at the House of Blues in Anaheim. Sunday? Why, Andrew
We know, we know--there's nothing more damn depressing than the end of a long holiday weekend. And it was a pretty perfect one at that: Sunshine, 80-something-degree weather, a cloudless sky. And now we're back to sunshine and 80-something-degree weather... but from behind your computer screen and your windowless cubicle. So. Sad. But one thing we learned this weekend: Costa Mesa on the Fourth? A total aural war-zone. But a pretty fun one at that. The upper crust (and Molly the dog, pictured)
Chris VictorioWell, that kind of sneaked up on us: Coldplay, doubtlessly one of the biggest bands in the world, is playing tonight at the Verizon Wireless Amphitheater in Irvine.Nothing against the dudes, natch, it's just that they were here less than eight months ago at the Honda Center in Anaheim. Chris Victorio took that fetching picture of Chris Martin there, and I wrote this awesome review of it! It was definitely a good gig, though, and tonight's should be, too, even if it feels more right
Keith MayAmerican Apparel approvedWho hates summer as much as we do? What? No one? Sure there's always tons of things going on every day and every weekend during these warmer months--but you're also moist like, the whole time. Or is that just us?We had a full weekend, as always. And it was so full it overflowed over to Thursday night! First up, photographer Keith May went and visited the First Annual OC Mud Run in Irvine, which is exactly what it sounds like--a bunch of grown adults and children
Ah, yes, the only American Idol winner that ever mattered--not to mention the only one we don't hate--Kelly Clarkson visited the Pacific Amphitheater in Costa Mesa last night. It was beautiful, it was crowded, there was plenty of kettle corn and beer strewn about... and photographer Chris Victorio was there, naturally. Click here to see more photos from the night.
Chris VictorioNumber one nerd fantasy: Princess Leia under the enslavement of Jabba? Probably. Here are a couple more excellent photo outtakes by photog Chris Victorio from San Diego Comic-Con 2009--hot gals, skimpy cosplay, ROBERT fucking PATTINSON (meow!) and more. There's also plenty of images from the super popular Twilight panel (are we fans? Not really. Fans of R. Pattz? Yes. Very much so). Throw in a couple of fuzzy fictional animals (Max of video game classic Sam & Max takes the ca
Chris Victorio Where were you last night? Did you miss out on the Bedouin Soundclash show at the Galaxy Theatre in Santa Ana? Well lucky for you, photographer Chris Victorio was right there and alongside as Jay Malinowsky and Eon Sinclair paid Orange County a visit.
Andrew YoussefHometown heroesIt was the weekend: The weekend No Doubt, on their sold-out reunion tour, came back to town to play an anticipated four nights at the Verizon Wireless Amphitheater in Irvine. While most of the band has since relocated north to Long Beach (and Los Angeles, but let's not speak of that) since meeting mega, worldwide success, we still think No Doubt's a big contender for, well, the biggest band to ever come out of Orange County. Aw. Check out the amazing photos from p
Chris VictorioIt's that sad time of the year, when fair season is just about over. (Insert joke about saying goodbye to bizarre fried foods here.) The OC Super Fair ends on Sunday, but there's a show each night until then to help you bid farewell to the magical land of ferris wheels and zucchini dogs.
Keith MayNot a crook. What'd you do this weekend? Was it as short as ours? Thought so. Photographer Keith May continued his exploration of Orange County this weekend. This time he brings us that "OTHER" dog beach--it has no name, no leash rules, no cops and is relatively unknown. This dog beach sits at the mouth of the Santa Ana River at the border between Newport and Huntington Beaches. Dogs surf and frolic as their owners watch. There's even some casual dog surfing instructions most Sundays.
Robert FayetteThe youngest member of New Kids on the Block, Joey McIntyre, is 36. But age isn't stopping the five reunited "kids" from touring, and they hit up Verizon Wireless Amphitheater in Irvine on Friday. Robert Fayette, bless him, was there. Here are the pics. Click on them "step by step." They've got "the right stuff." And so on!Also from this past weekend: Chris Victorio photographed Detroit Bar dance night "Made You Look" on Saturday, which featured, among others, Colossal KNXN (check
Oh, hello there. So what'd you miss this weekend this time?Well, first off: It was the annual nuuuurd pilgrimage to Anaheim Convention Center on Friday through Saturday--that's right, BlizzCon!The official gathering for all things Blizzard (you know, that giant video game company based in Irvine that's responsible for putting out everything from Diablo and Starcraft to World of Warcraft?) attracted thousands and thousands of attendees seeking the latest in news from the world of Blizzard--oh,
Chris Victorio What? Couldn't get enough BlizzCon photos over at our slideshow? Then you've come to the right place: Nurds unite! BlizzCon took place this past weekend, from 8/21 through 8/22. An annual gamer pilgrimage to the Anaheim Convention Center takes place every year. Announcements of new content or new games for Blizzard's future are announced, as well as a mega costume contest (our favorite part!) and a chance to play upcoming games. You ready for more? Many, many, many more photos a
Chris VictorioWhew, that was interesting. We're back from two days at BlizzCon 2009, and are only a little geekily ashamed to admit that it was a good time. You wanna see pictures? Here's our slideshow, and here's our post with many, many overflow pictures. This just in (two days ago) from Twitter:@OCWeekly what's blizzcon?Great question, @DiAnna42. Here, let's take a few hundred words to answer that question.
Keith MayHell yeah, is that fall weather we detect!? So what'd you miss this weekend? The Fourth Annual Boston Buddies Tea Party took place at the always dog-friendly (complete with dog menu!) Park Bench Cafe in Huntington Beach on 9/12. It's exactly what it sounds like: A whole lot of Boston Terriers and their adoring owners, with some food and doggie costumes thrown in there. Boston Buddies, Inc. is a non-profit organization dedicated to the rescuing and rehoming of Boston Terrier and Bosto
Paul Hiffmeyer/DisneyD23: It's all over! On September 10-13, the massive D23 Expo converged all things Disney--films, theme parks, merch--into one convenient building. And to be honest? We were kinda bored. Sure, some major announcements were made (stay tuned for that) and we got to see some cool things (Nightmare Before Christmas! In 3D!) but we found it a bit slow for our liking. The Convention Center was split into three floors: The first brought us the main exhibition hall, full of booths
Chris VictorioHeard anything about Kanye West lately? The usually reserved rapper/producer/tireless self-promoter has uncharacteristically made a tiny amount of headlines these last couple of days, but you've probably missed them. (Seriously, though, it must be weird to be called a jackass by the president, off the record to not.)Well, now that he's gotten all of the "crushing happy moments in beloved teenage girls' lives" out of his system, he's about to start a new tour, one that's coming t
Chris VictorioShawn Crosby plays a mean Obi-Wan, along with his authentic (!) Yoda puppet.Star Wars: In Concert stopped by the Honda Center in Anaheim on 10/01. The show continues again tonight, but will be making its way to a city not so far, far away near you soon. Check out StarWarsinConcert.com for a full schedule and more info. Meanwhile, check out the best of attendees from last night after the jump--young Padawans and all sorts of other nerds (it's a good thing, promise!) in costume an
Chris VictorioDave Navarro being Dave Navarro. Funny thing how plans don't always work out. Like take this weekend for instance: Photographer Keith May was totally DEEE-NIED from Oktoberfest celebrations at Old World Village in Huntington Beach. Reason? "Here's the deal... You're not on the list and your magazine did a fucked up story on us." Despite the fact that... we were actually on the list. But that's okay. Fine. Another funny thing? Photog Beth Stirnaman arrived at a Sunday night show
Seriously, what's scarier than an Insane Clown Posse fan? An entire venue of Insane Clown Posse fans. Observe:Chris VictorioWe're scared. On Sunday night, 9/27, Insane Clown Posse visited the Grove of Anaheim. And it was uh, insane. A Faygo massacre. The photos, they scare us. Click here for a sea of wasted soda, really, really dedicated fans, tons of bad clown make-up and live shots of a group that's remained puzzlingly popular for what seems like a lifetime. Whoop, whoop.
Chris VictorioDon't be fooled. This picture is from the Hollywood Pallaidum on Sept. 3!Last Night: Nine Inch Nails, Health, at the Music Box at the Fonda, Los Angeles; September 8, 2009.Better Than: The two previous Los Angeles "Wave Goodbye" shows at the Hollywood Palladium and the Echoplex, if reports are to be believed.Amount of People Fitting the Clichéd Nine Inch Nails Fan "Look": Honestly, not very many. I saw a couple girls that overdid it with the eyeliner, but that's about it. Mostl
Chris VictorioThere's a Labor Day weekend tradition even more sacred than the Jerry Lewis telethon: the Orange International Street Fair, which this year took place September 4 through 6 in historic/beautiful/adorable/insert positive adjective here downtown Orange. If you weren't brave enough to face--and attempt to wade through--the massive crowds, we've got your back, with this slideshow by photographer Chris Victorio. (CV also shot Nine Inch Nails on Thursday at the Hollywood Palladium, th
Chris VictorioMonday night might seem entirely too mellow to experience something like a Marilyn Manson concert. Well, if you truly believe that, you can't hang like the Grove of Anaheim crowd can, who last night took everything the shock rock icon was willing to give them. Photographer Chris Victorio was there as well, and came back with a whopping 59 (!) photos for your perusal. Start said perusal process here. Also slideshowin': Sunday night's show at Detroit Bar with Los Campesinos!, a con
Do you like to rock? Yes? Well, if so, you probably already were at Saturday's Epicenter show at the Pomona Fairplex in (um, let me guess this one) Pomona. Artists included: Alice in Chains, Linkin Park, Tool, Atreyu, Wolfmother and heaps more. So you were probably totally there, rocking out. Oh, what's this? You didn't make it out? Oh. I see. Well, take a look at this slideshow by Chris Victorio, then. It's the next best thing!OK, OK, backs against the wall here, people. Sounds like you want
Chris VictorioLil Wayne's all "whoa, dudes."We saw some stuff over the weekend. While some may argue whether or not it was better than midget wrestling at the Galaxy, it was still pretty swell. Well, maybe it's not right to say "we" saw stuff over the weekend--these were both Chris Victorio specials. First there was the show Friday night at the Honda Center in Anaheim, with Lil Wayne (pictured) and our new friend Soulja Boy doing their things. Those pics are here. On a rather different note,
Keith MayWatch and learnIt may have been 5,000-degrees out, but the weekend's events raged on regardless. From reminiscing with one of our favorite boy bands ever (what, you don't have one?) to watching a labrador retriever go down the line with more ease and comfort than any surf pro, we could barely decide on how to split our time over the weekend. On 7/11, the First Annual Surfin' Paws Surf Dog Competition took place at Huntington Beach's Dog Beach. Oh, it's as cute as it sounds. Follow phot
Keith MayNewport Beach Zombie Pub CrawlOkay, so a whooooole lot of things happened this weekend. Like a lot. First up was the Zombie Pub Crawl in Newport Beach, where tons of fabulous zombies dragged themselves to Newps for the first ever undead pub crawl. Sponsored by LocalHipster.com, the all-day event featured plenty of braaaaaaains and beer. See the full set of awesome photos by Keith May right here. Now, after the jump: Many, many photos from UFC 104 and the UFC 104 After Party in Los An
David PondSo what'd you do this weekend? Or, more importantly, what'd you not do? On Saturday, we headed down to Downtown Santa Ana to help celebrate the dead. Día de Los Muertos, or the Day of the Dead, is a Mexican holiday where people commemorate and remember their family members and friends who have passed away. On 11/7, Día de Los Muertos festivities took place in Downtown Santa Ana. Check out the colorful photos by David Pond right here. After the jump: HB kid Matt Costa at Detro

Get outta the way, bitch!
It's gettin' cold out there! Thankfully fun doesn't hibernate until spring in Orange County. But just in case you spent the weekend hiding beneath your blankets, let us fill you in on what you missed. Chris Victorio's weekend literally skated by as he shot some spectacular photos of the OC Roller Girls playing their last home game in Huntington Beach. Think again if you thought roller derby competitions were solely a phenomenon of the Midw
