Social Distortion, the Adolescents and even bubblegummy Blink-182 are among the bands whose scheduled UC Irvine shows were canceled at the last minute over the years because fraighty cat campus security fretted onslaughts of scary, leather-clad, facially pincushioned punk rockers.
A quick glance at the surfers, beachcombers and plain ol' average folks lined up against the extension of the 241 Foothill South toll road extension through San Onofre State Beach and other environmentally sensitive a
Getting stiffed by a porn star took on a whole new meaning Monday when Huntington Beach's Janine Lindemulder was arraigned in federal court for allegedly failing to pay about $80,000 in income taxes, The Smoking Gun reports today.
The racktacular 39-year-old entered a not guilty plea and was released without bail. A Sept. 16 trial was set. Smoking Gun's item includes a copy of the original charging document that was filed June 18 in U.S. District Court in Eugene, Oregon. Lindemulder, who moved
Yes, most advent calendars start on Dec. 1. Eat it.Christmas is awesome. Sorry non-observers; I love you but it's true. You get presents, you get to give presents and spread holiday good tidings and so on. And come on, Candy Cane Joe-Joes.Since Christmas music is perhaps the most awesome part of the holiday, I thought it'd be appropriate to have a countdown of sorts of some great seasonal tunes. And what better way to start than with a band from my old stomping grounds: the east valley area of m
It was Oliver Wendell Holmes who opined that a new truth is better than an old celebrity-tinged news item, or at least he would have opined that had he lived in our celeb-obsessed times. So it is in that spirit these 15 Orange County brushes with famous folks in '08 are unveiled.
1) Newport Beach city officials revealed in January they were trying to acquire the statue of their adopted Favorite Son, John Wayne, that moseys in front of the Larry Flynt building in Los Angeles. Back when
Alright, so there aren't any official tour dates yet, but a few babies and weddings later, No Doubt has finally officially confirmed they will indeed be touring Summer 2009. Starting this May, the band will be making stops at larger amphitheaters and arenas all through out the United States and Canada with current KROQ sensation Paramore (hey, it could be worse). Swedish synth pop group the Sounds and Canadian band Bedouin Soundclash will provide additional backup on select tour dates. While the
It's easy to hate on Live Nation, but they've been involved in some alright stuff lately, like the Blink 182 lawn seats that cost $20, straight-up--inclusive of parking and service fees and all that yakkety yak. The latest is "no service fees Wednesdays," which will run throughout the summer and starts this Wednesday (tomorrow!), June 3. As the name suggests, it removes dreaded service fees from lawn tickets from all sorts of big shows, like 311, Aerosmith, Coldplay, No Doubt and Dave Matthews B

Despite some conflicting reports on the matter, Weezer is coming to the Verizon Wireless Amphitheater in Irvine with Blink-182 (pictured) on Sept. 17, as confirmed today by Live Nation. This is, of course, the first Blink-182 tour since their 2005 breakup, which led to largely uninspiring projects like 44 and Angels & Airwaves (apologies to any of you who may have indeed been inspired by those bands. You could do better). Will time be kind to Blink's songs about being in high school and goo
Sometimes things happen by "popular demand." That's kid stuff. A mere trifle. A pittance. This second Blink-182 show just added to the schedule at Verizon Wireless Amphitheater? Why, that was a result of OVERWHELMING DEMAND! At least according to the Live Nation press release. It's happening Friday, Sept. 18 at the former Irvine Meadows, a day after the sold out previously announced show. Weezer won't be there this time around, but there's another pretty big band in their stead--Fall Out Boy, mar
Concert promoters LiveNation are offering a pretty good deal for upcoming shows at the Verizon Wireless Amphitheater (and other venues across the country that, if you are reading the OC Weekly, you probably don't care that much about). The catch is, it's good only today.Anyone who buys lawn tickets to shows at the mega Irvine venue will pay only $24.99. And to make the deal even sweeter, there are no additional fees. Yeah, you're sitting a mile away, but the lawn's where all the good weed is, so
If you thought Verizon Wireless Amphitheater could only be used for big-name bands like Blink 182 and No Doubt, well, you're stupid. (OK, you're not stupid. Misguided, maybe.) Exhibit A: Power 106's "Comedy Fiesta" show, happening on September 26 at the 16,00-capacity venue formerly known as Irvine Meadows. It's an, uh, eclectic lineup of big-time comedy names. Headliners are the reunited Cheech & Chong, who are joined by the polarizing-to-say-the-least Carlos Mencia, Gabriel Iglesias (wh
The recently reunited Blink-182 is bringing its summer tour to the Corporate Sponsored Outdoor Venue formerly known as Irvine Meadows Sept. 17. The show (and subsequent tour) also includes Weezer, Fall Out Boy and the All-American Rejects.
I hated Blink-182 when I was a teenager, but I've grown to like some of their tunes as I get old and lame. The less I considered them a punk band and the more I thought of them as a pop band, the more I liked them.
But...I saw Blink-182 a few times, mostly a
Blink-182 drummer Travis Barker has had plenty of side gigs over the years. Box Car Racer and 44 both featured other Blink members, while a duo called TRV$DJAM included his friend Adam Goldstein. Known as DJ AM, Goldstein, of course, was with Barker in a Learjet crash that killed four people in September, 2008, and he died late last month in an apparent drug overdose.
Andrew Youssef We, for one, are not happy with this heat wave of sorts. It needs to go away and it needs to tap its friend autumn on the shoulder to come the hell back. But anyway: So what'd you do this weekend? Was it as action-packed and fascinating as ours? First off, we caught Weezer, Blink-182 and Taking Back Sunday live at the Verizon Wireless Amphitheater on Thursday and Friday. While we're the first to admit that Weezer's uh, not so Weezer-like anymore, we still love them to bits. Seriou
Andrew YoussefNo, you da man.Last Night: Blink-182, Weezer, Taking Back Sunday, Asher Roth at the Verizon Wireless Amphitheater, Irvine; September 17, 2009.Better Than: Growing up.Hostile Territory: Blink-182 is doing a huge promotion with the T-Mobile Sidekick, and advertisements were plastered all over the Verizon Wireless Amphitheater. Blink-182 and Weezer both released their first albums in 1994. They're both two of the most successful "alternative rock" bands of the last couple decades.
Weezer, those guys who brought you the absolutely flawless Pinkerton in 1996 and a bunch of other less inspiring records after that, have released a new video for their song "(If You're Wondering if I Want You To) I Want You To." The song made its Orange County premiere last month when Weezer opened up for Blink-182 at Verizon Wireless Amphitheater in Irvine; our review of that show is right here. The video stars Weezer (duh) and Cloverfield actress Odette Yustman and is off the band
