Andrew YoussefLast Night: We Are Scientists, the Blood Arm at Detroit Bar in Costa Mesa, May 31, 2009.Better than: Staying home and watching the MTV Movie Awards--even though Akiva Schaffer, the Lonely Island mate of host Andy Samberg who popped up on the award show's "Doubt for Sega Genesis" sketch, has directed four WAS videos. (Insert obligatory Bruno/Eminem incident comment here.)Most appropriate filler: Return or the Jedi playing on the Detroit monitors before the geek-chic We Are Scientist
Like tunes? Love British people? Then you must be so psyched right now, with these three new music releases out this week. There's Art Brut's third album, Art Brut vs. Satan, which is at this point the only one I've heard all the way through (though I'm planning on remedying that soon!). There's a lot of talk that it's a "return to form" to the glory days of Bang Bang Rock and Roll, but I dunno, I thought It's a Bit Complicated was pretty cool, too ("di-rect hit! di-rect hit!"). Andrew YoussefThey've tried to do handstands for you.Yeah, we had another busy weekend. Yeah, I haven't updated to the iPhone 3GS with the better camera yet.Friday Night: Art Brut, the Blood Arm at the Echo, Los Angeles; June 19, 2009.Better than: Listening to the bands Art Brut (playfully) criticized during their set (The Killers, Kings of Leon, U2).Best perk: Freebie show posters given out after the show, with Morrissey, Charles Manson, Alfred E. Neuman and Dick Tracy on them! What a crew! (They also threw out condoms to the crowd, but I didn't get any. Literally.)I wasn't planni
Andrew StevenPlaying the House of Blues in Anaheim is a big deal for a national touring act, but for a local band, the opportunity to gig at one of Orange County's premier venues--nestled in Downtown Disney, no less--has to be even more of a treat.
Newport Beach's Saosin just released their their second album, In Search of Solid Ground, this past Tuesday. Rather than rest on their hard-rockin' laurels, they're preparing a headlining show at the House of Blues in Anaheim: well, on December 20. So lots of preparation. Tickets are on sale this Saturday at 10 a.m., $16.50-$19.More shows on sale tomorrow (and a bunch of rad Glass House shows on sale today) after the jump!
