Students of history can only expect so much from Images of America, those slender books of historical photos published by Arcadia Publishing. Most of the people who compile the pictures in this book are well-meaning antiquarians (of the philosophical and age variety), and the people who purchase such tracts are usually of the same ilk. They're not expecting thorough analysis or dredging up the dirty bits of our past; they want photos of parades!

Tokyo Table, the first restaurant of many at the new Diamond Jamboree in Irvine, will have its grand opening tomorrow, Wednesday, September 17, at 5 P.M.
The restaurant's already got two outlets in L.A. County (Beverly Hills and Arcadia).
Other than the usual roster of rolls, teriyaki and tempura, this is a Japanese restaurant that looks like it wants to do EVERYTHING. The menu is as voluminous as those at Jerry's Deli -- but hopefully, better with the execution.

Once upon a time, there were two Beard Papa's in Orange County. Now there are none. Several months ago, the Beard Papa's shop in Santa Ana MainPlace, which was the last to debut in O.C., was the first to go. Last week, as reported by Weekly contributor and Chowhound Professor Salt, the very first Beard Papa's in Orange County inside the Marukai Market has also shuttered.
