For the better part of the past decade, Sigur Rós was the go-to band if you wanted to sound cultured when somebody asked you what music you liked. They released an album titled after parentheses—( )—and featured a variation of the band’s native Icelandic called “Hopelandic,” which was a slew of nonsense words. That’s not to say that there aren’t plenty of people who genuinely enjoy their esoteric take on rock, the same who were disappointed to hear they went on “indefinite hiatus” this year.
