Part Joanna Newsom (though trading in the harp for a toy piano and actually possessing a great voice) and part Regina Spektor, Rickman pens tunes that carry a sort of theatrical, magical curiosity. The use of the toy piano in any other artist’s repertoire would come across as kitschy and campy, but after listening to Rickman’s lullabies, you can’t imagine them played any other way.
