Since 1980, the band Negativland has made records, video, radio, books, and live performances using appropriations taken mostly from corporately-owned mass cultureand theyve got the lawsuits to prove it. Rearranging content to recontextualize its meaning, the bands approach to culture jamming (a term they coined in 1984) has positioned them as key advocates for significant reform of US copyright laws.
