In 1992, a film about an underdog hockey team was released, and the sporting world was never the same. It was such a hit that the Walt Disney Co. decided it would be a good idea to create an actual hockey team fashioned after the movie—and the Mighty Ducks were hatched. Never before, or since, has a professional sports team been named after a film. For this reason, the Ducks never really garnered the respect they deserved—that is, until Disney wised up and sold the team; the new owners dropped the cheesy “Mighty” from their name and changed the colors.
