Lon Chaney is known as the Man of a Thousand Faces. For every role he played, Chaney did his own makeup and transformed himself into one iconic character after another: Quasimodo from 1923s Hunchback of Notre Dame ; the sharp-toothed Professor Burke from the infamous lost film London After Midnight , and a downright evil Fagin in one of the first adaptations of Oliver Twist . Though Chaney is perhaps best known as the titular anti-hero from 1925s silent masterpiece The Phantom of The Opera .
