This month at Harvelle's, that excellent retro-throwback gin joint in Long Beach, their Wednesday night residency belongs to Whiteboy James and the Blues Express. The raucous blues gang first made a name in the late '80s and '90s, when Southern California encountered a wave of new blues music. After a few years off in the middle, they regrouped in 2006 and haven't slowed to catch their breath, ultimately making them one of the area's hardest-working blues acts.
