Zulema Aracely Lindoro, Beauty Tied to Drug Cartel, Pops Up at San Clemente Checkpoint

There was either a big “get” for the Border Patrol at the checkpoint south of San Clemente last week or no big whoop–you decide.

Zulema Aracely Lindoro, the pretty young wife or at least baby momma of Mexican drug kingpin Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzman's son, was arrested on immigration charges and is already back in Tijuana.

The Border Patrol announced Friday that on the previous Monday, Lindoro, who is in her early 20s, and her infant son were plucked from a car driven into the checkpoint by a U.S. citizen. A check of her fingerprints revealed her student visa was revoked in March because of suspected links to El Chapo's family.

The elder Guzman is a major player in the Sinaloa cartel, which controls drug trafficking along much of the U.S. border with Mexico, according to authorities. In May, the U.S. Treasury Department imposed financial sanctions against his son, Ivan Archivaldo Guzmán Salazar, on grounds he works for the cartel. Salazar is the father of Lindoro's baby.

Authorities do not believe Lindoro is involved in the drug trade, and they are unsure whether she is Salazar's legal wife. She was released Tuesday on humanitarian grounds to care for her son, and she voluntarily crossed the border back into TJ Thanksgiving Day.
