ArcLight Cinemas on Sunset Boulevard in Hollywood has come up with an interesting way of picking films for its inaugural Documentary Festival. On its Facebook page, the theater has posted the trailers of 20 documentaries. Anyone can watch and then vote for the film they would like to see the rest of. The top 10 voter-getters win screen dates.
Off to a slam-dancing start is We Were Feared, the documentary on irrepressible impresario Jerry Roach and his notorious club that ushered in the original wave of punk rock music in the 1970s, the late, great, dank Cuckoo's Nest of Costa Mesa.

We Were Feared, which we lavished with praise before its world
premiere at the 2010 Newport Beach Film Festival and still got an earful from Roach, had 20 votes as of
1 p.m. Nine other docs had one vote apiece, and the rest were still
looking for a miracle.

We Were Feared, director Jonathan W.C. Mills, producers Ivan Correa and York Shackelton, locals (such as Duane Peters, Joe Escalante, Steve Soto, etc., etc.) and non-locals (like Jello Biafra, Iggy Pop, Henry Rollins, etc., etc.) who appear in new and vintage footage, and especially the man, the myth Jerry Roach, are all awesome.
In fact . . . oh, crap . . . there goes my phone again.
