Vietnamese Man Shot by Garden Grove Cop

A 30-year-old Vietnamese man was shot by a Garden Grove police officer Sunday morning, but despite requiring surgery he is expected to recover. The drama began with an emergency call about a man in a residence in the 9600 block of Teal Avenue threatening his family with a knife, according to a brief Garden Grove Police Department statement.

“Upon officers' arrival, they confronted the subject who was armed with a knife and an officer involved shooting occurred,” reads the statement. “No officers were injured.”

The unidentified man was taken to UCI Medical Center in Orange, where he underwent surgery for his injuries and is expected to recover, according to police, who indicate the Orange County District Attorney's office is investigating the officer-involved shooting “per protocol.”
