Robert Bedolla Ambriz
, 55, was convicted on Tuesday of multiple counts of sex with a minor and lewd or lascivious acts with a minor and could face up to 171 years in prison. The victims are a 9-year-old boy and a mentally disabled child.
According to court records, the crimes began in 2005. Prosecutors said Ambriz lured a mentally disabled boy to his apartment by letting him smoke cigarettes and eat potato chips, according to the Register. In June 2008, he lured in a 9-year-old boy with a toy. Ambriz admitted to attacking the children when police approached him with a ruse that DNA evidence connected him to the crime.
Ambriz pleaded not guilty to all charges, but he was convicted of 11 criminal counts. His sentencing is scheduled for May 13.
