[UPDATED: Memorial to Take Place Sat.] Missing: UC Riverside Student Alan Sun-Long Lin Last Seen at Newport Beach Pub

UPDATE: FEB. 18, 11:23 A.M.: A memorial will take place for Alan Lin tomorrow, Sat., Feb. 19, at Crystal Cathedral (12141 Lewis St, Garden Grove). The memorial starts at 9:30 a.m. and will be open to the public.

UPDATE: FEB. 15, 9:20 A.M.: An autopsy has indicated Lin died by drowning. His body showed no signs of trauma, according to Newport Beach police and a report by The Orange County Register. Toxicology tests have been conducted, but results can take up to 12 weeks.

News accounts state Lin's body was found this morning near BlueWater
Grill in Newport Beach. No cause of death is known at the moment,
although the coroner's department and detectives are investigating. Our
thoughts and prayers go out to Lin's family and friends.

ORIGINAL POST, FEB. 11, 8:50 A.M. There's a Facebook note going around titled “MY BROTHER ALAN IS MISSING” that has reached more than 13,000 people. It tells the story of 22-year-old UC Riverside student Alan Sun-Long Lin, who has been missing for almost a week now.
Lin was last seen leaving Newport Beach's Rudy's Pub and Grill Saturday, Feb. 5 at approximately 1 a.m.



Lin, a mechanical-engineering major, resides in Riverside during the school week but visits family in Irvine on weekends.

Newport Beach and UC Riverside police are both currently investigating the situation. Lin was last seen wearing dark-colored jeans with a black T-shirt and tan blazer.

Lin's physical description:

  • DOB: 2/26/88
  • Height: 5'9″
  • Weight: 160 lbs.
  • No tattoos, no piercings
  • Has a mole on his left cheek
  • Clean-cut
