UPDATE: LBPost.com reports District Weekly editor-in-chief Ellen Griley confirmed in an email that the paper will close. Unnamed sources also tell OC Weekly this is true.
Just checked the home page of the District Weekly and was greeted by a headline that reads, “Pie in the Sky.”
That pretty much sums up the Long Beach alternative weekly newspaper that was launched ambitiously three years ago by what seemed at the time like half of the OC Weekly newsroom.
Well, the pie has apparently landed on the ground with a hard thud; , judging by an email LA Observed's Kevin Roderick
It claims that, after much recent speculation, received. the District is folding.
UPDATE: Griley says next week's issue will be the District's last.
For the sake of our dear friends and former colleagues, we hope the latest talk is just as uninformed.
Godspeed, friends.
