[UPDATED:] Inmate Dies at Orange County Jail

Update, December 2, 12:38 p.m.: The inmate who was found unresponsive and later pronounced dead in his Orange County Jail cell has been identified as Keith Eric Files, 28, of Costa Mesa.

Files was serving three years of probation for a 2009 burglary and identity theft conviction, according to court records.

An autopsy was scheduled for today.

: A 28-year-old man found unresponsive in
his Orange County Jail cell this morning was later declared dead by
paramedics.

The inmate, who has not been identified, was booked
into the jail shortly after noon on Monday on a probation violation and
housed at the Intake Release Center. The Orange County Sheriff's
Department release below also reveals there was no sign of
foul play in the single-inmate cell or indication of cause of death

A 28-year old man held in the Orange County Jail on a probation violation was found unresponsive in his cell at about 7:30 a.m. on Tuesday. Deputies and medical staff attempted CPR to revive him and called for paramedics. The paramedics pronounced him dead.

The inmate was booked into the jail shortly after noon on Monday and was housed at the Intake Release Center. He was held in a single person cell and there was no obvious sign of foul play or of the cause of his death. An autopsy has been scheduled for Thursday.

As is routine in all cases of an in-custody death, the District Attorney is investigating and the Orange County Office of Independent Review is monitoring the case.

His identity is being withheld pending notification of his family.
