[UPDATED: Event is TOMORROW] Theresa Cisneros and Ron Gonzales, OC Register Editors, to Sit Down With Gustavo at Fullerton Public Library Oct. 27

Originally posted Oct. 20: We at the Weekly have very little love for the Orange County Register, not just because they're the major daily in town but for many petty battles waged upon us over the years. But I have nothing but love for editors Ron Gonzales and Theresa Cisneros, who man the paper's OC Latino link blog. They offer a revolutionary concept for the Reg's retrograde readers: coverage of Latinos in la naranja that isn't negative! That doesn't fall back on tired stereotypes of Loretta and Stabba Ana! That–can you believe it?–actually celebrates the good in the county!

I'm down to help them grow in popularity, and that's why I'm hosting the two as part of my “Gustavo's Awesome Lecture Series!” (held in conjunction with the Cal State Fullerton Department of Chicana and Chicano studies, where I'm a junior, junior lecturer) next Thursday, Oct. 27, at the Fullerton Public Library.

I'll talk to Ron and Theresa about their careers at the paper, the role they envision OC Latino link to play in Orange County, and–of course–the many loser readers they have to deal with on a daily basis. More importantly, though, I want them to interact with their public and get more story ideas from them. Help the competition? When we're good Mexis in OC, we have to.

The lecture will happen next Thursday at 6:30 p.m. at the Fullerton Public Library, 353 W. Commonwealth Ave., Fullerton, and it's FREE. See you there!
