UC Irvine Ranked Second Best in Job Outcomes for Grads Relative to Their Education Costs

In yer faces, Nick Schou and Barack Obama! My beloved University of La Verne finished 122 slots ahead of your Occidental College in rankings of nearly 1,200 colleges and universities based on employment outcomes relative to the total cost of a higher education. Of course, my Leopards are down there at No. 370–but at least that beats Oxy's No. 492 and, oh snap, USC's 619, Whittier College of Dick Nixon fame's 848 and Chapman U's 905.

Oh yeah, in other news, UC Irvine was No. 2 in the whole damn country. Indeed, the Anteaters were only outdone by the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in the rankings compiled by Educate to Career Inc., which you may know from CollegeBuddy and CareerBuddy.

]

The San Diego-based nonprofit crunched such criteria as the percentage of graduates employed in occupations that match their field of study, the average salary earned by recent graduates, the percentage of people employed within one year of graduation, the number of years it takes to graduate, the net cost of in-state tuition and loan default rates.

Actually, UCI is on a roll when you consider it was revealed at their Medial Awards ceremony Saturday that the university is the first non-profit organization in Orange County to attempt and raise $1 billion in private support through its 10-year fundraising campaign.

Other Educate to Career California rankings include: UCLA (10), Cal State Los Angeles (17), Cal State Dominguez Hills (85), Master's College and Seminary in Santa Clarita (204), Cal State Long Beach (205), Vanguard University in Costa Mesa (238), Cal State Northridge (255), Claremont McKenna College (259), Cal Poly Pomona (288) and Mount St. Mary's in LA (341).

Oh double snap, ULV also bests Pepperdine (393) and Cal State Fullerton (474). Sorry to brag, Titans, but my sweet Leos only won the college baseball world series before I got there a million years ago. I think women's volleyball was our only winner back in the day, so I'll take victories where I can get them until they decide to rank the best university to have “and Shirley” added to the end of its name.

As for you Oxy Tigers, you do have bragging rights over Biola University of La Mirada (526), Concordia University-Irvine (688), Loyola Marymount (731), Pitzer College in Claremont (938), Woodbury University in Burbank (970), Otis College of Art N Design in LA (1,112) and the aforementioned Trojans, Poets and Panthers.
