TV's Youth Obsession Continues as Bobby Schuller Takes Over the All-New Hour of Power

"I want the Hour of Power to capture the minds of non-religious people," says Bobby Schuller.

It's rather stunning when you think about it, but since Robert A. Schuller took over as leader of Crystal Cathedral Ministries from his televangelist father Robert H. Schuller on Jan. 22, 2006, he was succeeded by his disapproving dad, his sister Sheila Schuller Coleman and his son Bobby Schuller. Before Coleman left in 2012 to start a new church, she had overseen the former mega-church's bankruptcy, ouster of her founder father and sale of the iconic Crystal Cathedral to Orange County Roman Catholic diocese. But a blast from the past came this week when Bobby Schuller was named host of the renamed and reformatted television show Hour of Power with Bobby Schuller. Call it an early Glory of Christmas present.

"I want the Hour of Power to capture the minds of non-religious people," Bobby Schuller told City News Service. "It will be shot in a new style, have gripping content, and have an eye toward growth of individuals in their understanding of, and relationship with, Christ."

He concedes he did not envision a resurrection of his grandfather's famous Sunday program when he came in to "help the ministry as things were winding down to a close" in March 2012. But more people started showing up to services, and Schuller was recently named lead pastor and CEO of what is now called Shepherd's Grove church.
