This Week in Running From Your Rut

Are you tired of doing the same old thing weekend after weekend? Is the idea of striking out again at the local bar losing its appeal? Do you like to watch other people attempt to kill themselves by running for hours on end? If you answered “yes” to any of these questions, then this weekend's 10th annual Pacific Shoreline Marathon might be just what you are looking for.

Rain or shine, at 7 a.m. on Sunday, nearly 10,000 entrants will set out on a course that starts and ends on PCH north of Beach Boulevard by the Hyatt Regency. The maximum 1,000 will run the full 26.2 miles, others will run the half marathon, and still others will run or walk the 5K. The races benefit Free Wheelchair Mission, a charity that provides wheelchairs to people in underdeveloped nations.

Last year's marathon suffered from some headwind, but as of this writing, the weather outlook for this year looks excellent. Regardless of the weather, the race needs volunteers—put down the Pabst and try a different place to meet someone nice.

The Pacific Shoreline Marathon begins at the sky bridge in front of the Hyatt Regency Hotel, 21500 Pacific Coast Hwy., Huntington Beach, (949) 581-0105; www.psmarathon.com. Sat., 7 a.m. Admission is free; parking is not.
