The Wrath of Chuck

Steven Emerson bases his claims that Dr. Muzammil Siddiqi of the Islamic Society of Orange County sympathizes with Islamofascism largely on a statement the imam reportedly made during a 2000 Washington, D.C., rally: “America has to learn—if you remain on the side of injustice, the wrath of God will come!”

Harsh words, indeed. But if Emerson's looking for wrathful religious leaders in Orange County, we respectfully submit the writings of Chuck Smith, founder of the Santa Ana-based Calvary Chapel. Here's a very brief selection of quotes from Smith's books and essays over the years dealing with God and wrath and infidels:

“We believe that Jesus Christ died as a propitiation (a satisfaction of the righteous wrath of God against sin) for the whole world.” —Calvinism, Arminianism N the Word of God

“After the Rapture, the Lord will pour ?out His wrath upon this sinful world.” —Calvary Chapel Distinctives

“It is the time of the pouring out of God's wrath.” —Ibid.

“God has been very longsuffering and patient. But the day of His wrath is coming.” —What the World Is Coming To

“For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness.” —The Gospel According to Grace

“We shall be saved from wrath through Him.” —The Tribulation and the Church

“Before we came to Christ, all of us were children of wrath and our whole manner of life was spent trying to fulfill the desires of the flesh and mind.” —Why Grace Changes Everything

“[To believe in Christ] is to be saved from the judgment and the wrath of God that is to come against all the unrighteousness of men, even those who have held the truth of God in unrighteousness.” —The Claims of Christ
