The Bag Monster Invades OC Today

Speaking of the Surfrider Foundation, its South County chapter and the Earth Resources Foundation have brought the Bag Monster to Orange County today.

Known for darkening supermarkets, the halls of power and anywhere crowds gather in the Bay Area, the Bag Monster is the symbol of the campaign to get markets and large retailers to stop the single use of plastic shopping bags, which tend to collect in the ocean and landfills.

The Bag
Monster and other Earth do-gooders are pressing California state senators to vote for their house's version of Assembly Bill 1998, which would not only ban the distribution of plastic bags but encourage the limited use of paper bags.

The goal is to get shoppers to bring their own reusable bags to stores.

“By encouraging consumers to
bring reusable bags when they shop, AB1998 is helping to create a zero waste
economy and system for our shopping habits,” reads an announcement from Surfrider.

Bag Monster and his pals are scheduled to arrive at 10 a.m. at state Sen. Lou Correa's District
Office, 2323 N. Broadway, Ste. 245, Santa Ana.

It's on to state Sen. Tom Harman's District
Office at 950 South Coast Drive, Ste. 240, Costa Mesa, at 11:30 a.m.

Then, at 1 p.m., the Bag Monster is scheduled to have leapt traffic to reach the district office of state Sen. Mimi Walters at 2403 El Toro Road, Ste. 210, Laguna Hills.

You corporate lobbyists who may run into the green gang better keep those contributions in canvas bags.

If you're chained to your desk today and can't make it out to see the Bag Monster in action, here he is on YouTube:
