ORIGINAL POST, DEC. 26, 9:44 A.M.: Garden Grove Police suspect a murder-suicide is the cause of today's early morning fatal shootings of a 51-year-old Vietnamese man and his 39-year-old Vietnamese wife.

“Family members told investigators that the couple was having marital problems and they were talking about a divorce,” says Lt. Jeff Nightengale, the police department's spokesman.

At 4:16 a.m. this morning, dispatchers received a 9-1-1 “hang up” call, according to Nightengale, who adds a relative of the unidentified husband then called back on the police business line to say the man may have shot his wife and then himself.

Officers arrived to the residence in the 15000 block of Sail Avenue to find the husband and wife, who also has not been identified, suffering from gunshot wounds, said Nightengale, adding that paramedics later pronounced both dead at the scene.

The couple had two children, a 17-year-old girl and 4-year-old boy, but it is not yet clear if they were home or at another family member's house at the time of the shootings, Nightengale noted.

UPDATE, DEC. 29, 6:44 P.M.: The county coroner's office has identified the couple from the recent murder-suicide in their Garden Grove home.

They were 51-year-old Thanh Vuong, who died of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot after shooting dead his 39-year-old wife, Yvone Tran, the coroner said.
