Suicides (and a Suicide Attempt) Muddy the Waters in Irvine and Newport Beach

There's something in the water.

I see dead people.

No, these were not plucked from old movie posers but the cities of Irvine and Newport Beach, where two people killed themselves in or near bodies of water this week and a third tried to do the same recently.

A reader points out the body of a clothed woman was found Thursday morning at the Santa Cruz pool in Irvine's Paseo Westpark neighborhood. Irvine Police were on the scene of the presumed suicide.

“That's not something you see everyday, thank goodness,” remarked the reader.

The body of a man who committed suicide was found just before 1 p.m. Tuesday at the waterline near Newport Pier, according to police, who were working their second suicide in as many days.

Like the man near the surf, another man shot himself to death about 3 p.m. Monday on a park bench at Alta Vista Drive in Newport Beach.

But back to self-slayings near water, a man suffered major wounds when he tried to end it all by shooting himself Oct. 1 on the beach at the Santa Ana River jetty. He survived.
