Santa Ana Cops and OC Deputies Join Garden Grove Police in Anti-DUI Operations TONIGHT
UPDATE, APRIL 10, 11:10 A.M.: More anti-DUI operations tonight have been announced by the Santa Ana Police and Orange County Sheriff's departments.
A checkpoint will be up from 9 tonight through 3 a.m. Saturday in the 2100 block of North Main Street in Santa Ana. The sheriff's department deploys DUI "saturation patrols," where extra deputies cover streets known for DUI-related problems, from 7 tonight through 3 a.m. Saturday in Dana Point, San Clemente and San Juan Capistrano. As in the Garden Grove op, funding comes from California Office of Traffic Safety grants, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
ORIGINAL POST, APRIL 10, 7:03 A.M.: The Garden Grove Police Department holds a DUI/driver license checkpoint from 9 p.m. Saturday through 3 a.m. Sunday.
An exact location was not released, but this was from Sgt. J. Fischer of the Traffic Unit:
"Over the course of the past three years; DUI collisions have claimed 9 lives, and resulted in 144 injury crashes harming 211 of our friends, and neighbors."
Officers manning (and womaning) the checkpoint are trained to look for signs of alcohol and/or drug impairment, Garden Grove cops warn.
Funding comes from a California Office of Traffic Safety grant, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
