That didn't take long.
Last week, it was a pickup truck carrying a metal security door full of all kinds of drugs that won the prize. Agents busted that load at the San Clemente checkpoint.
Their sniffing dogs must be working overtime, because San Clemente claims yet another win with the April 16 bust of an SUV full of cocaine. After a dog signaled the presence of drugs in the truck, agents performed a search. “Six bundles of cocaine were concealed inside the gas tank,” the U.S. Border Patrol said in a press release. The narcotics were accessible through an access panel for the fuel-sending unit, which was found under the back seat.”

This seizure wasn't as big as the Border Patrol might have hoped, however. “The six bundles contained approximately 14.55 pounds of cocaine, worth approximately $189,150,” reports the San Clemente Patch. “The woman and the cocaine were turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration. The Border Patrol seized the Mazda Tribute.”
15 pounds of coke and Mazda. That's going to hurt the cartels, but they are reportedly very determined to try again. Another successful day in the war on drugs.
