A former Los Angeles Unified School District grade school teacher who retired to Newport Beach after he was accused of molesting little girls in his classes was sentenced in Long Beach to 12 years in prison today.
Robert Pimentel, 58, pleaded no contest last month to three felony counts of committing a lewd act on a child and one count of continuous sexual abuse involving a female relative.
With time served and good behavior, he should be out in eight years, according to his attorney.
The conviction covers three schoolgirls and one female relative, but the ex-teacher's actions have also produced a lawsuit on behalf of 15 girls against the LAUSD, which "repeatedly failed to protect young children from Pimentel and will be asked to compensate Pimentel's victims for their suffering," according their attorney John Manly.

"There are 13 or 14 little girls upstairs in that courtroom who are emotionally slaughtered by that pervert because (the district) kept it secret,'' Manly told City News Service.
The case has also produced two other suits against LAUSD.
