Reps. Dana Rohrabacher and John Campbell Join Progressive Chorus for Afghanistan Pullout

What do Dana Rohrabacher, John Campbell, Barbara Lee and Maxine Waters have in common (besides being the dream cast for a white-black, Republican-Democratic S&M video)?

All want U.S. troops out of Afghanistan.

Pronto!

Members of Congress Lee (D-Oakland) and Waters (D-Los Angeles) joined fellow Congressional Progressive Caucus members in signing a letter to President Barack Obama
urging a pullout now that Osama bin Laden is dead and the Al Qaeda
threat is minimized.

Campbell (R-Newport Beach) is not a member of that caucus, of course, as “progressive” to him is an insurance company whose calls he ducked in his car lot office. But Sir Wonder Bread did join a bipartisan group of representatives calling for a troop removal. The others were Reps. John Garamendi
(D-Walnut Creek), Jason Chaffetz (R-Utah), Peter Welch (D-Vt.), Walter Jones (R-N.C.), Rush
Holt
(D-N.J.), John Tierney (D-Mass.) and John
Duncan
(R-Tenn.).

According to a recent KPCC post, Campbell explained his stand by saying American does not need troops in Afghanistan anymore “unless we wish to establish a new
nation-state there, which I think is not worthy of our blood or our
treasure.”

Rohrabacher (R-Huntington Beach) did not sign the letter, but the self-proclaimed expert on Afghanistan reportedly urged bringing troops home ASAP.

“If Al Qaeda emerges in other countries or in some
countries,” Rohrabacher reportedly explained, “we could target them as intelligence targets
rather than as a military target for some kind of invasion of the other
country.”
