Reaching for the Moon Biopic and I Am Divine Documentary are Big QFilm Fest Winners

Reaching for the Moon, a bio-pic on lesbian poet Elizabeth Bishop and the opening night presentation at the QFilm Fest Friday, won two of the top awards at Long Beach's longest running LGBTQ film festival.

Jurors selected Reaching for the Moon the best feature and its director Bruno Barreto the best director of a feature at this year's 20th anniversary event.

Best Screenplay-Feature: Anna Margarita Albelo and Michael Urban, WHO'S AFRAID OF VAGINA WOLF?
Best Screenplay-Short: Alejandro Reyes and Marcial Rios Salcido, CLAUDIO, MAURA Y YO
Best Dramatic Short: A WORLD FOR RAUL
Best Comedy Short: LEZ BE HONEST
Best Director-Short: Denis McArdle, BARRY'S BESPOKE BAKERY
Special Jury Award for Cinematography: DOS ALMAS
Special Jury Award for Emerging Talent: Brandon Alexander III of FIRST PERIOD

QFest founder and programmer Robert Cano called this year's run “a huge success, drawing over 1,500 attendees.” That's 300 more patrons than attended last year, Cano noted.
