Hippocrates once said, “Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food.” Marathon runner Katina Morales and Michael Garcia have made that the mission of their health conscious edible company Betty Khronic. This Saturday, the Betty Khronic duo are teaming up with Cannabliss Yoga in Huntington Beach for Puff & Pose, one of the first 420-friendly yoga events to come to Orange County. “Puff & Pose is meant to put a spotlight on the fact that there’s a health and fitness market within the cannabis industry,” says Morales. “A ton of athletes use cannabis, and the goal is to bring that community together… There are so many advantages to using marijuana— especially when it comes to exercise. This event is meant to highlight those benefits, as well as prove that cannabis blends seamlessly with a holistic and active lifestyle.”
For $25 you get one hour of yoga, followed by a 15 minute group meditation. But if you’re a medical marijuana patient with a valid doctors recommendation, you also get a gift bag valued at $200. The gift bag, according to Morales, is said to have tinctures, pre-rolled joints, a Betty Khronic Energy Bar and more. Also, 15 percent of all proceeds will be given to Grow for Vets, a non-profit that connects veterans with the necessary resources to access or grow cannabis for treatment of their medical conditions.
Another important aspect of this event is that it helps break the archaic stigma that exists around cannabis. And according to Morales, Puff & Pose is the first of many Betty Khronic fitness sessions to come. “We have plans for group hikes and running sessions that are aimed to bring cannabis users together who live active lifestyles. Using cannabis before exercising helps create a connection with your body. You focus on your muscles and breath in a way that you might not otherwise, which can help you understand where you need to stretch more or where you’re in pain. It can really make a difference in your health and performance.”
